He is a LW/C though and Calgary has precious little room there. You could go Brouwer/Lazar/Bart for him.

Huh? It’s 4.5 cap hit.

It wouldn't be that hard to dump Baertschi ... or we could send him to Siberia.

I was talking about Steen's contract, not Brouwer's.

Alex Steen is the one with a 5.75 cap hit.

Why would St Louis be sending us Steen?

Probably unlikely anything will come from the Flames regarding this today as it's already past 5 pm.....gonna have to re-ignite the optimism for tomorrow.

Someone asked what bad contracts they have to trade for Brouwer's. I said I supposed that Steen's contract could become bad at his age of 33. I think Jaybo's is a tad worse though.

Because Brouwer has negative value. Sven is more easily dumped.

St Lou doesn't really have anything at the NHL level that makes sense as a cap dump.

I could see something like Kyrou for Brouwer + something like a cap hit %

Not really sure.

Highly doubtful that Brouwer agrees to a trade IMO.

It'll be interesting. I could see why both the Flames and Brouwer would not want him to play on the 4th line. It depreciates the asset significantly, and it makes it virtually impossible for Brouwer to have any future success.

I hope they work something out for his sake.

a. More ice time/better role.
b. Less pressure.
c. No whipping boy status.
d. Hasn't put down roots here.
e. Not from here/no extended family.
f. Might go to a familiar team and/or coach.
g. Seems to be a good guy and handles himself professionally.

As opposed to refusing a trade, staying where he's not wanted and getting less and less ice (and possibly healthy scratches)?

I don't know. If he knew he was going to be relegated to 4th line duty and has found himself in the dog house he might want out.

Like someone mentioned earlier, he may have even requested the trade himself.

It was suggested a page or two back Brouwer might have been the one to request a trade - I don't think that's the craziest thing I've heard all day.

Yeah, I mean who wouldn't want to spend the season as a bit player riding shotgun to Lazar and Glass on the 4th line, right? Pretty sweet gig.

Dog house or not, with Jagr coming in he doesn't need anyone to tell him it's 4th line or nothing. (Unless someone gets injured.)
