Tanner Glass's hockeydb.com page shows him in New York for 2017-18... just sayin'.

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p....php?pid=72654

(Obviously nothing to read in here, but one can hope.)

Hamilton would have had to be waived today in order to be sent down tomorrow. So he will be on the opening 23 man roster.

However, the same issues do not hold for Glass. He doesn't have to be signed by tomorrow - maybe they tell him they will offer him a contract the moment they make their final move (such as a trade).

Bottom line is there are still balls in the air, so it's too early to determine what the final roster will be.

It would suck to see Jankowski sent down, but he's the easiest one to dispatch. That's the reality of the NHL and sadly, we have to live with it. Lazar, Brouwer, and Stajan are on the team only because of their contract status. Hamilton remains on the team because, well I don't know. All four were outplayed by Jankowski and Glass. This has potential to really suck.
First, told you so's on a message board are ... (avoiding inevitable mod edit).

Second, if you are keeping a player up over another player because of their contract status you aren't doing your job. And it isn't the way the NHL works. There have been plenty of people waived to make rooms for kids.

My hope is this is a temporary transaction due to the Jagr signing. Once that is official they can waive a veteran and call up Jankowski.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Versteeg - Bennett - Jagr
Stajan - Jankowski - Brouwer
Glass/Lazar

Glass deserves a 1 year contract as the 13/14th, Hamilton does not deserve a spot here. Lazar/Stajan/Glass battle it out for 4th line minutes.

and the middle option

2) Glass signed to a two way contract, Jankowski cut. Glass starts the season but is demoted in the first two weeks and Jankowski is recalled.
4) They don't want to make the hard decision on waiving another veteran until both the Jagr and Glass contracts are done. This happens once the contracts are official. Sending Jankowski to the AHL is a paper transaction until then.

Which is mind boggling. Did Dougie say he wouldn't play if Freddie was not on the team? I can't understand for the life of me how F Hamilton is still here.

It is definitely a factor. Dougie and Freddie are extremely close and probably the reason why Freddie got picked up in the first place

Only player of that group that doesn't need waivers to be sent down is Tkachuk.

So the Flames are going to play a player in Edmonton then waive him and call up Jankowski to play in the home opener?
Can Tkachuk even be sent down? Would he not still be CHL eligible?

He turns 20 before December 31st so he would be eligible for the AHL.

I would only want Jankowski up on the 4th line if Gulutzan is intent on running 4 scoring lines.

I would be ok even with this:

Brouwer - Jankowski - Lazar

I like Stajan, but his shots are muffins. I don't think the Flames are going to trade Stajan, nor do I feel that they should. Flames are intent on having depth in the line-up - Treliving has always stated how important depth is. With some increased minutes, I think that line could do really well and give both Brouwer and Lazar the opportunity to rebound somewhat.

If Gulutzan wants the 4th line to be a prototypical energy line, then I would feel Jankowski would be better served going to Stockton and playing on the top line there.

Either way, I feel it would be a temporary move. There is going to be injuries - it almost always happens, and there simply is no way that Jankowski would be stuck in Stockton all season - even a half season would seem like a huge stroke of luck in the health department. He is the first call-up.

This how I see it as well. Sending Jankowski down does buy some time if the timing of signing Jagr/Glass occurs before is a veteran can be moved. Hopefully Janko is in the line up for the home opener, at worst.

There is a cancer in this organization. I'm starting to think it's the owners and they're putting their paws where they don't belong.

Something is amiss with the Flames.

I find it hard to believe Stajan is better at anything over Janko, he works hard but I don't even think he's that good at killing penalties. Flames have showed him a lot of loyalty, but I'm tired of seeing these types of veterans get priority on this team. GG's comments about Stajan are very discouraging. He looked better last season but we have a way better option. Would be a damn shame if Janko is sent down

Said on the day that Jagr purportedly signed and Jankowski has not been sent down. And before an actual game has been played.

GG likes his pets, we played Grossman last year, played Chiasson forever on the top line. He obviously loves Stajan and his comments about him aren't good. He basically said there is no way he is sending Stajan down.

I like Jankowski, he had a great first year in the AHL and a great camp. He legitimately deserves a spot on an NHL roster, but I think it is a little premature to think he has earned a spot to have a guy like Matt Stajan waived and demoted.

How his skills are going to translate over 82 games can't be extrapolated by a good September showing. Playing 4th line minutes with "scrubs" is not the same as first line minutes in the AHL. These guys are usually the meanest SOBs in the league and even if its 10-12 minutes a game these lines go to war. How will Jankowski hold up to that? No one really knows yet so it would be a bit premature to lose a good veteran for nothing until you know for sure.

As for the whole "earned not given", people need to realize that this isn't about one training camp. Matt Stajan has bled and fought for this team for the better part of a decade now, up down and sideways in the lineup. Dude has taken some of the ugliest hits and came back for more. Last year he was the only forward other than the Backlund-Frolik-Tkachuk line to actually be a positive plus minus, and he was the third forward in PK minutes.

I love Jankowski, what he can bring, but until he proves he has earned the position through more than just a good couple exhibition games the last thing I want to do is get rid of a guy like Stajan for him.

It's a moot point. Tkachuk isn't getting sent anywhere. They could just not sign Jagr's contract immediately (he isn't playing Weds)
