It is an exhibition game where the Jets iced a tryout lineup and the Flames iced their playoff line-up.
Sort of returning the favor that the Flames gave to the Jets at home.
The Jets left Byfuglien, Wheeler and Perreault resting... 17M of cap space for these 3.. Lowry might be hurt but he did not play either.
In a regular season game with the Jets missing these 3 players the Flames would/should be prohibitive favorites.
The relief on this thread shows how close to panic mode a group of posters were nearing.
Big questions going into the first 10 games: Brodie/Hamonic Gaudreau finding beast mode.... where he is a threat every shift (think Laine).
what will Smith do to celebrate a win over the Oilers??

not worth arguing about but the equivalent line-up by the Flames would mean that Gio, Gaudreau and Frolik give this game a pass.
Great final exhibition game for the Flames but I am curbing my enthusiasm... not panic but not as optimistic as before the exhibition games.

TSN has hated the Flames for years. Usually if you see a highlight of a player scoring or a team they are discussing it is against the Flames, even if it is a team we rarely play. I hate Dave Hodge more than anyone else on that network, he used to do a segment on looking at the Canadian teams and half the time he wouldn't even mention Calgary. I will say it has gotten better over the past few years but for a while there it was brutal. Don't miss Ray Ferraro gushing about the opposition even when we were winning.

Unfortunately for Jay and Dan they reached cult like status when they left and it's like everyone forgot what they were; Solid Sportscentre hosts that took us through the highlights and threw in some humour.
Then when they came back it's like no one remembers what they were and expected this incredible comedic, sports show with two legends, and unfortunately I think TSN kind of forced them to try to live up to that.
If they had just come back quietly at some point with a little "Hey Canada, Jay and Dan are back next week to host sportscentre!" and they came in and just did a solid highlight show with some unforced jokes here and there I think people would be raving about their return.

I agree for the most part, I think they're about as natural as they used to be. The only stuff I don't like is their sketches. Those seem forced, but when they're just doing the highlights the haven't missed a beat.

Glad to see Smith so dialed in and competitive last game.
That's the Smith I've cussed out for the last however many years when he's stood on his head keeping crummy Phoenix in games they had no business being in.
Really hope he continues his habit of stoning and frustrating the greasy Oilers and wins us one in Anaheim. Be a great way to start.
