LOL. He can't trade Duchene for just draft picks, not sure why this is ever brought up. He needs somebody back that is NHL ready or close to NHL ready. Draft picks often don't make a difference for 5 years. Sakic cannot trade Duchene for assets that are 5 years out, its a total no go. They're already halfway through a rebuild. They aren't looking to contend 7 years from now, he has to start turning that franchise around ASAP.
It makes no sense to trade one of your top players for a defensive dman (Hamonic.) And it makes no sense to trade one of your top players for draft picks when you're halfway through a rebuild. Lets use a little common sense when we're evaluating trades. Lots of the stuff I've seen suggested makes absolutely no sense for COL. Two 1sts and a two 2nds is not what he's looking for, its not what I'd be looking for if I were him. It makes absolutely no sense. People keep saying, "yeah but they're rebuilding." They're not starting a rebuild from scratch. They need to find assets that are around the age of their current 'A' level assets. Landeskog is turning 25 I think, MacKinnon is 22. Rantanen is early 20's. Obviously if you're trading Duchene you're looking for at least one major asset in their early 20's to mid 20's. You need to support the core you're building around.

I think Jagr will be in St. Louis shortly. Just makes too much sense given their injuries and needs.

But weren't the Blues bringing back Upshall because of Fabbri's injury?

Are you sure:
June 26, 2015
Ryan O’Reilly
Jamie McGinn
For
Mikhail Grigorenko
Nikita Zadorov
JT Compher
2015 2nd round pick
He seems to like magic beans...

Besides the Blues and Flames, there must be another team or 2 in the mix. I would guess Vegas and maybe NYI? Lebrun doesn't think he ends up in STL but I guess lets see what happens. He isn't playing the game in Kladno, and as stated by others it likely means he's real close to an NHL contract.
"I won't play for Kladno because there are still some negotiations in the NHL. Those teams don't want me to play here and I have to respect that," Jagr said, according to iDNES.cz. He did not identify the teams.

Then they are re-tooling. Wrong approach if you ask me, but I'm no Joe Sakic.

If that is the Avs stance then it's no wonder that they haven't got a deal done. I really doubt that anyone is going to trade a high-level NHL ready prospect or young player for Duchene.
Like I said in this thread, GM's will just wait out the Avs....only 2 seasons left until he is a UFA. He had the best trade value last season....he has even less this year.....and next year - it would be maybe a 1st round pick at this rate...
There's a reason a trade hasn't been completed. Other GM's in the league aren't stupid. They know that the Avs have a gun to their head.
If Treliving REALLY wants Duchene then he's not forced to pay the price for him right now. Same thing happened with Hamonic....Treliving wanted him 2 seasons ago ...but Treliving waited...and got him for a lesser price than the Islanders were seeking 2 years prior...
Next year...Duchene is still going to be young...still going to be skilled etc.....and if he doesnt get him next year...then we can try our luck in UFA....
This should be a trade negotiation that Treliving should be prepared to lose by setting a price that the Flames are willing to pay...and if the Avs decide to deal him elsewhere then so be it.

Hahahaha. Alright, that's it. Sign him Treliving. Just pay the man, I don't care what.

Jagr on this team makes a ton of sense and gives of 3 amazing and different scoring lines throughout the top 9 and arguably one of the most dangerous 4th lines in the league.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Versteeg - Bennett - Jagr
Lazar - Jankowski - Brouwer
Stajan, F. Hamilton
Giordano - D. Hamilton
Brodie - Hamonic
Bartkowski - Stone
Kulak
Smith
Lack
That is an insane line-up with solid depth in the minors ready to step in if needed.
I still do think Stajan would have to be dealt to make this work.

A big factor on whether Jagr makes sense for the Flames is where does he fit on the PP. No point on signing him if he doesn't play on the PP. Who does he replace?
