They'll be 6-4-0 with 4 of their wins coming in OT, and giving away loser points to division rivals. Gaudreau money and Ferland start strong. Backlund starts slow but Frolik and Tkachuk will pick up the load. Bennett plays with Brouwer, they are no good and CP remains butt hurt. Stajan and Bartowski play 9 games each. CP loses their minds cause Jankowski only gets 10 minutes a game and gets scratched once. Lazaar starts okay with 3 points, but the vocal minority wines about "wasting" a 2nd round pick. For some reason: Jagr will continue to be just what this team needs supposedly.

I still won't buy a Jersey or tickets to a game at full price. Don't like making the rich more rich. I just like good hockey.

Gio and Gulutzan will get the team motivated, but they’ll still suffer from their annual slow start, albeit improved from last year.

5-3-2.

They will be outscored 87-0 in their first three games. The goalies will not make a single save, and the skaters will not get a single shot on goal. Out of sheer embarrassment, the league will relegate the entire franchise to the AHL, where they will finish with a perfect 0-68 record.

City council will evict the club from the Saddledome and offer to let them use a city-owned outdoor rink if the owners take turns mowing the mayor's lawn every week. At that point, no one will care.

Dougie Hamilton will be traded before the puck drop on opening day, and Troy Brouwer will suffer a career-ending injury at practice. In spite of this, ricardodw will blame the entire season on Hamilton, and everyone else will blame Brouwer. The CP servers will permanently melt down and be replaced by a Commodore 64.

But maybe I'm being overoptimistic, as usual.

I expect a slow start that has them chasing. But I have confidence that they'll then have a 20 - 25 game streak that, if you extrapolate it over a full 82 games season, shows the Flames to be an elite team, so all will be good.

2-4-4. Flames will never be a 100 point team cause they figure the season starts in November.

I feel better after hearing Derek Wills say this morning that GG was right ticked off at the team for their complacency this pre-season.

Good.

That tells me he may mix things up if they don't start like they should. I suspect a very short leash. I also suspect that certain players who make the team won't last 15 games before being replaced

I think I am too used to the slow starts, that a hot start would like in 2009 scare me. What I would be comfortable seeing is:
  • Forwards a mess, inconsistent with flashes of great play mixed with horrible lapses.
  • Top 4 defense doing well, but lower pairs and inconsistent forward support leads to it looking bad.
  • Over the hill veterans getting all the good ice time, while younger players sit or are on the 4th line.
  • Goal-tending looks bad save % wise, but this is due to the mess in front and not actual bad goal-tending.
Leading to a bad record and a major reshuffling of our lines. The team improves and works into a playoff spot my the end of December.

I expect to see a lot of:

Also, I'm fully expecting a slow start. Not because we cant stop goals, but because we cant score them. 3-7. One of those wins is thankfully in Anaheim.

Flames will go 4-4-2 in the first 10 and everyone will be calling for heads to roll.

One year out of a dozen?

Out of the last 12 years the Flames first month average record is 49%.

7 out of 12 years has been 50% or better record. 3 of those years are actually over 60% win percentage.

So I think Textcritic's point stands pretty good even if he only used one year to make his point. 3/12 starts have been good, 4/12 starts have been weak and 5/12 starts have been pretty average. Hard to say they NEVER get off to a good start.
