Certainly feels like we need another scoring threat. Jagr is relatively cheap to add with no assets moved to bring him in. Duchene would be quite costly... but maybe worth it as well. I assume he's capable of playing LW, and Versteeg could switch to RW easily on the 3rd line.

I don't know how the Flames can look at their preseason and say "nah, we're fine". (If we're going by the preseason though, the only reason not to push hard for Jagr is he might mess up our draft position .)

I've been banging on the "sign Jagr" drum ever since he became available and I've been saying the same things as the guy in that article. I honestly believe that he's exactly what this team needs and he can play with the top forwards that are a little on the slower side.
Can you imagine the cycling game of a line consisting of Tkachuk-Monahan-Jagr? Gives me chills.
Tkachuk-Monahan-Jagr
Gaudreau-Bennett-Ferland
Versteeg-Backlund-Frolik
Stajan-Jankowski-Brouwer/Lazar
Yes please.

Jagr will not play on Saturday for Kladno. He told that to Czech media today. He is still in touch with some teams in NHL, and is waiting if he will be signed somewhere. Surprising news, because that Saturday game is a sold out in Kladno, it was like a sure thing he will play. So it looks like some of "those teams interested in him" are really INTERESTED now and that those talks are heating up. If our beloved Flames are one of "those" teams remains to be seen........

If there was interest before camp started from Treliving and the Flames, and Treliving has admitted that the weakness will be scoring goals, nothing in camp or preseason has changed to ease his mind about that, and the player is still available.
Not surprising about Kladno, it always seemed like more of a joke the last week or two when it was brought up, but it progressed into him playing and even the coach said he'd be playing on the top line when Jagr figured he'd go out for a few third line shifts.
At least he's been continuing to train, if I were him I'd grab some stuff and head over to North America this week to be readily available.
Like for our friend Calgaryboy, maybe Aeneas can put him up for the week?

If more than one team is interested in him, that will jack up the price. Oh goody. Perhaps this should have been solved within that last seven days, but I'm not a GM so I don't have a qualified opinion.

According to Cap Friendly the Flames have $5.2 million in cap space, but it doesn't count a #7th defenseman or a #13th forward. Plus it doesn't include Jankowski, but does include F. Hamilton. Subtract 0.31 off the cap space when swapping in Jankowski over Hamilton. Add Kulak and Hathaway/Glass as the 7th and 13th forward. That takes $1.3 million off the cap space.
Now they have $3.59 in cap space left. Remove $1 million for ELC bonuses (Tkachuk is probably a sure bet on obtaining that). Jankowski has a chance but let's not consider him.
The Flames can only really offer Jagr around $2.5 million without risking to go over the cap because of ELC bonuses. If they don't care about reducing the cap for next season then they can go to about $3.5 million but it would be very tight.

We already worked this out 10 days ago. It has to Gulutzan be holding up the deal.

So adjusted for inflation, 1 year $851,531.46, 82 Schnitzels and Gulutzan has to agree to share his room.

I say that in relativity to their age. Of course this is theoretical, but I would like to think that Ferland is still young and has not reached his peak whereas Jagr is slowing down and nothing will change that. Between the two over the last two decades, Jagr is legendary and can only be exceeded by the great one, so from that viewpoint, Ferland can only dream of doing what Jagr has done.

Duchene should be the #1 target, even if the cost is high (assuming no subtractions from active roster, which includes Janko). Spend futures and prospects like crazy if need be, go nuts. Let’s go for it.

Can't go too crazy. Likely we have traded our next 3 seconds and next years first.
You would support moving Valimaki, Dube, Parsons and our 2019 1st for 2 years of Duchene?

Duchene plays LW or C I believe. Not sure he helps on RW.

If the Flames signed Jagr (and I am not convinced they should) I would think the contract would be quite low with heavy bonus incentives. The likely overage would be next seasons problem.

Versteeg could shift to the RW:
Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Duchene - Bennett - Versteeg
Stajan/Glass - Jankowski - Brouwer/Lazar

Sure, but does screwing up the cap next season worth what Jagr can bring you for one season? I was in the firm no camp when it came to signing Jagr before training camp, but with Foo, Lazar and Brouwer being disappointments in training camp I think bringing in Jagr makes sense. Though not sure it's worth it if it screws the Flames on the cap too much next season.

It makes way too much sense to sign Jagr, you all of a sudden have 3 legitimate scoring lines, and you push Brouwer down to the 4th line.
Regular 4th line:
Lazar/Stajan-Janko-Brouwer
Truculent 4th line:
Glass-Stajan/Janko/Lazar-Brouwer
Jagr rest day 4th line:
Lazar moves to Jagr's spot on RW in the top 9
The top 9 involves all the other regulars and you mix and match with whatever is working.
Just do it already, worst case, the season bombs, and you trade Jagr at the deadline for a 2nd or 3rd round pick and recoup some of the assets lost in the Hamonic deal.

Agreed.
Package a deal centered around Rasmus Andersson. He won't get a look here for the next three years with Gulutzen around anyways (and I think Fox is just as good a prospect).
We are lacking speed and skill upfront and he brings both in spades.
