Default Made to measure shirts

Does anyone here get their dress shirts "made to measure"?

I have a hard time finding dress shirts that fit properly and I was thinking about getting a few custom made. Just wondering if anyone has experience with this. Where to go in Calgary? and prices to expect?

Thanks.

Thought about that too. I can get by usually with regular sizes from the store, but I'd be interested to know as well.

I know every so often you see ads in the paper about a talior coming into town from Hong Kong or other places in the Orient, who take your measurements here, then head back home and make you your high quality, custom suits (and maybe shirts).

Heard those guys are really good...the quality of material and workmanship is high quality for cheaper then the same clothes bought here.

I do and it is fantastic!

Go to Ed Williams Mens Wear in Crowfoot (behind the KFC, despite appearences it is an AWESOME mens wear store) and take a look at their Omega dress shirts. The ones in-store are great but you can also pick a fabric and have one made up custom. They are the best in Canada IMHO (they handle the 'name' shirts for Harry Rosen and Henry Singer, among others, i believe. But their own shirts are even nicer!).

Talk to 'Thomas' if you can. He is my personal clother and is fantastic.

How much, approximately, for a custom made? Nothing exotic as far as material goes...

the other thing you can do that is MUCH cheaper is to buy a shirt you like and simply go to a tailors and have them fix it to fit nicely...it will save you a bundle from having them done from scratch and look just as nice. Prob cost you the price of your shirt plus $30-40 for tailoring.

Nothing less than a $100 if your lucky...usually $150 and WAY up dependant on materials, cuffs and fit styles.

Here have some made in Bangkok for you...

They are usually about $160-$200 but are 100 times nicer and will be wearable at least 2 or 3 times longer then the other options mentioned here.

They are quite literally comparable with the nicest shirts in the world - so the price is VERY good by that measure.

Omega is kind of a little secret in that they make a LOT of those other 'best shirts' sold by the most exclusive luxury names under other brand names but they sell them under 'Omega' for less. It is kind of a little side project by the old guy who owns the company. In clothier circles they are perhaps best known as the makers of 'Aquarius' shirts sold exclusivily out of their Toronto factory, mostly to the older BIG money Torontonians by word of mouth amongst each other.

As someone who has spent 7 months in SE Asia over the past 2 years, and as someone who takes their clothes seriously, there is ZERO comparison.

The quality of the fabric alone is worth the difference in price. I would rather have 1 or 2 Omega shirts then 20 'Thailand specials'.

I am just a young 20-something guy (Browna, we even met once briefly if you recall) but downtown i am often stopped by people and asked about my shirts (and (Dagr & Samuelsson mostly) sport jackets but that is a whole other story). The CEO at the company i work at always complains that i have nicer shirts then him despite him spending a LOAD of money on them. Of course that was until he too started seeing Thomas at Ed Williams. lol...

I guess if it is not a real priority to look super good it is not worth the money, but IMHO thwe money in question is worth it to look that well put together...

They also have cheaper (but still nice) shirts including already made Omega shirts, that can be tailored in-house for you.

Claeren.

PS - I feel bad for going on about them so much, but they really are THAT nice IMHO. What else can i say? lol...

Thanks Claeren...we did meet,..the Cirque tickets a couple years back, right? I'll have to look into those shirts it. I may try the premade Omega's and start with that. As I said, I'm not hard to fit, but a bit of custom tailoring would be ideal.

Hey Claeren,
do you get custom made dress pants too, if so what is the price range? Do you go to the same place as your shirts?

They do make custom pants but i haven't needed them.

They have a huge selection of pants and jeans, and a number of them fit me extremely well. With a tailor on site to take care of the smallest detail i am set...
