My reaction when Tanner Glass gets signed and scores the winning goal of the season opener:

You're a hiring manager.

You bring in two candidates:

Candidate 1 has a 10 year track record and solid references. His sales numbers are low, but they are consistent, and every one of his references tells you how good of a foot soldier he was and how well he blended into the existing sales team. His bosses all loved him but after a recent layoff, he's struggled to find a new position. He knows the industry and he knows what he's worth. His salary expectations are in line with what you're looking to pay.

Candidate 2 has significantly less experience, and his sales experience is from a different industry. His initial numbers look really good, significant improvements year over year, but there is some question whether he'll be able to adapt to the new industry and keep his KPIs as high or consistent. He has promise, but he's also trying to climb the ladder and his salary expectations are higher than you'd like for the position. You have wiggle room on salary, but know that an overpaid and under performing sales hire will reflect poorly on you.

Who Do you hire?

I would probably not hire either of them, they both present a risk for different reasons...

Keep searching. Or hire 2 and assess him after 90 days.
Don't accept poor performers.

or more recently
"the one with Sutter as last name"

See, what will also reflect poorly on you is low sales... period.

So you're boned for sure in case 1 and only maybe boned in case 2. Sure, you can hope that your other salesmen maybe make up for candidate 1's likely low sales but they'll equally be able to make up for candidate 2 possible under-performance. Worse, if candidate two is hired by one of your competitors and becomes a top seller that also reflects poorly on you.

Hathaway needs to stay. They can fire F. Hamilton into space for all I care, not an NHL calibre player.

Does Freddie get a job just because he is Dougie's brother?

I'd rather have Glass and Hathaway over Freddie. Freddie doesn't really bring much, other than keeping Dougie happy.

Both Glass and Hathaway will be useful in games against the Oilers and Ducks.

If Freddie H. is the difference between a 45 point season and a 60 point season for brother Dougie, does that mean Freddy is good for 10-15 points a year?

I actually like what Freddie brings as a 13th forward.

Personally I think Freddie is on this roster 1000% because of Dougie. The morning show jokes about it from time to time that Freddie is on the roster to "take care" of his little brother off the ice (laundry, meals, etc)

Well we were all correct about how useless Grossmann was going to be.
Are we all going to be correct again about how useless Bartkowski is going to be?

GG usually finally agrees with us a month after we recognize something.. Cut the losses now Glen and get rid of Bart now instead of waiting a month to realize he sucks and gives the puck away constantly.

Regarding Glass, is it 100% fair to assess him on only his past work over the years or is it possible that people can change and that is why he 'earned' a spot? I am a believer in the benefit of the doubt, only because he seems to be one of the guys that are giving 100%. If he craps the bed 10 or 20 games in, on a consistent basis, then he goes down and someone else comes up, At this point in time, he does deserve the spot, in my opinion.
