Sometimes things breakdown, and there isn't much you can do about it.

The funny part of the picture is the one lady wearing the veil at the Calgary Airport with an angry look on her face.

Fair enough.

So they were to be there Sunday, but instead left Monday morning. And this doesn't give them 72 hours how? Sounds like to me, the 72 hour milestone would then pass sometime on thursday afternoon.

So they can still get married, but won't be able to have their beachside wedding probably. You wanted a Mexico wedding, you got it! Only missing one day of their vacation as well.

You can't tell me you wouldn't be ****ed if this happened to you whether you were getting married or not. How badly do you want to spend one of your hard earned vacation days in an Airport when you have been looking forward to the beaches of Mexico?

If they didn't have another plane sitting around waiting perhaps they need to hire WestJet or some other airline to take these people to Mexico. There wasn't even anyone from Air Transat at the Airport to tell them what was going on or when their flight would be taking off again. That is brutal customer service.
Whether a person is ****ed or not after what happened shouldn't change how the situation is handled. Sure they might be, but the airline is running a business with tight profit margins. They can't afford to bend rules for everyone that is inconvienced by mechanical breakdowns or weather. The fact that Air Transat is even offering to hasten the wedding registering process up surprises me. That's actually going out of their normal processes to do so.

Chartering another aircraft from another company is not an option. It would simply cost too much, and the odds of getting one are slim to nil. I say good on Air Transat for at least offering to help. That right there shows they care. **** happens often and people are late sometimes as a result. I can see someone being mad at Air Transat if AT was able to forsee this mechanical breakdown occuring, but that is not the case.

I think someone alredy brought it up, but if AirTransat was not expecting to have a plane landing in Calgary, why would they have someone there to explain the situation to the passengers. If a plane gets diverted unexpectedly, It may sometimes be impossible for a company to have a rep right there. What is AT supposed to do, have a person at every airport just incase one of their planes gets diverted unexpectedly.

Serioulsy, I think some people have some very unrealistic expectations about how companies are supposed to do business.

It seems to me that this is a realtively common thing to have happen (planes beak down and sometimes there aren't people on hand for the airline to take care of it, so the airport officials have to do the best they can). What makes this situation different is that there happend to be a large number of women on board who think that since they are getting married right away, that the rules should be changed for them.

The fact of the matter is that if you want to have a wedding in Mexico (where evidently there are rules that can make it difficult), you are taking a risk that there could be problems.

It seems AT did their best to help these women, but of course anything short of a new plane immediatly ready would not be good enough. One quote was something like "AT knows the rules about getting married in mexico...." well so did you, and you have to take into account that sometimes (especially in NOVEMBER), that airtravel can be delayed.
It's unfortunate, but they knew the risks, and they took it, and despite the best efforts of AT some of them may get burned. Sure AT is partially at fault as it was their plane, but they have done their best to remedy the situation, these women have to accept some of the responsibility for their choices (personally if i was getting married in Mexico and knew I had to be there 72 hours prior, I'd give myself at least an extra day just in case. Not doing so is just plain stupid).

I'd say the pilots would have been worried about getting the plane fixed. That'd be their number one priority. It's the pilot's job to inspect the aircraft, and ensure everything is functioning properly.

Now I'm not saying the pilots would have been neck deep in elbow grease fixing it. But I'd say they'd be in the process of checking the plane, as well any administrative redtape that comes along with it. I highly doubt that the process would be:

- land plane
- taxi to terminal
- get out and have a coffee while passangers bitch about what's going on

I can only imagine the red tape that's involved on their end for making an unscheduled stop, and leave the plane in another airport unannounced

I was thinking the same thing; what about the flight attendants? Couldn't they also serve as customer service reps?

Air Transat doesn't have flight attendants; I think a better term would be sheep herders.
