Was hoping someone: Poirier, Lazar, Pribyl? would step up and run with a RW spot. But it hasn't happened. I think Lazar can be a good player on the defensive side, but we need another offensive RW.
So I'll throw it back out on the table. Jagr. It makes the lines so much deeper:
Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Tkachuk - Bennett Jagr
Frolik - Backlund - Lazar
Versteeg - Jankowski - Brouwer
Stajan, Hathaway
With our D, and with good or even decent goaltending, that lineup can win the cup
|
I would agree. None of Foo/Poirier/Klimchuk/Pribyl have stepped up enough.
That is a fabulous line-up with Jagr added. Lazar gets his confidence back and elevates his game with Backlund and Frolik.
Tkachuk moves back to 3LW if Lazar does not work and we move Versteeg or Stajan to Bennett's line,
or
try Jankowski 2LW if he is too good as 4C. Brouwer or Lazar then sits for Stajan as 4C.
Jagr gives you the extra depth we will need for injuries/playoffs. We have the cap space. Would love to see Jagr teach our boys how to cycle. Jankowski could learn much from him. That mentorship could be huge down the line. BT must be getting close to a decision given none of the youngsters are ready on the wing. I cannot think of any other better use of our cap space. We still have a little cap left for the bonuses to avoid overages next year. Unless Jagr is asking for the moon.
Stajan and Hathaway can easily step in for injuries. Remarkable depth for a long playoff run if our goaltending holds up.

I think he's cemented a spot.
Where's the guy who hadn't really watched him but disagreed with everyone that he's been playing well?

I'm here. I'm sorry that I offended you so deeply. Must be exhausting taking other people's opinions about hockey players so personally.
I didn't watch the game last night but at this point I'll just take everyone's word that Jankowski is good. Man it's been a nice last 5 years with prospects that we draft actually turning into impact NHLers.

A guy no one has offered a contract to in 3 months, is the missing ingredient to make this team good enough to win the Stanley Cup?
Seems like a huge stretch.
Jankowski looking like a true second liner and Bennett actually taking a step towards his potential will have far greater impacts than anything else.
Also TEAM defense is by far the biggest question mark in my mind. To many guys last year just didn't/wouldn't get back in time. I hope/expect we see a large improvement in that area.

I really like this. But I'd probably like it more if Brouwer was in the press box and Hathaway took his spot. Too bad that won't happen.

lol on the contrary, you didn't provide any offence. I was just looking for your play by play breakdown from last night. The last one was rather amusing.
The good news is not only is he looking good, he seems to have a real scoring touch. If that translates he could be quite an additional weapon this year.

I'm fully aware that this won't happen, given the expense in the pressbox, but I can dream.

He was never expected to be a point producer. He was excellent in his role.

Brouwer is better than Lazar, Hamilton and Hathaway.

This. It's been quite a journey following Janko. I thought he looked great at last year's Development camp....that's when I really started to feel that he would be a NHL player.

This is my ideal lineup...don't understand why the Flames are so hesitant to try it.

Janko played a bit of RW last night too. I wonder if that's an option as well.

A rookie center at 3rd C is a little risky, that's why. Have Janko as the 4th line C and maybe some 3rd line LW sometimes. No need to rush him in now that he's in the big leagues.

I'd love to see him moved to the wing to play with Bennett and Versteeg. Really don't want him buried on the 4th line.
An added benefit is how trigger happy the officials have been kicking centres out of draws, it'd give us a line with 2 faceoff options.

Yes, and makes Backlind expendible. Address another area from strength.
