Nobody gets injured on a holding call. So if you establish position, you should be allowed a grab. You can't hold on, but give the defender something. Just don't use your stick.

Please no. It will turn into water-skiing.

NHL asked its refs to dial back on the penalties as per Twitter.
That was fun while it lasted.

Preseason adjustment already by officials on slashing and face-off violations. NHL sent note to officials yesterday to dial it back a bit.

Hah. That lasted long.
I wonder at what point there became such an attitude towards games with high amounts of penalties being unbearable to watch?
In 1987-88, teams averaged 5.5 PP's per game. That means in many games teams would have had 7-8-9 or ten PP's.
I'm a little young, but did fans moan about too may PP's back then when it was common to see 6-7 PP's per team?
I really don't mind it. I think more PP's in a game generally means that the better players get more icetime at ES than they would in a game with less special teams.
You always hear coaches talk about how they need to stay out of the box so they can "roll four lines". While I don't mind watching bottom sixers slog away out there, (They have their moments), I'd rather see the top six go at it.

I'm sure a reasonable middle ground exists, and I'm not convinced we're going to find it.

Yeah, dialling it back this quickly effectively neuters any chance of fixing the damn problem.
What a joke.

The NHL has no balls and this is why it struggles.

China: Great sport, but do we really need all these penalties?

What a joke. Dial it back means players now know they can slash again at will. Especially the stars.

They didn't call Baertschi for a slash on Muzzin in the game this morning, which should've been a slash even last year.

I wouldn't be surprised if they told the guys in the Chinese games to ease off a bit in the interest of selling the game, but they aren't seriously abandoning the whole slashing crackdown, are they?

"There is too much slashing in the league. Let's penalize it more frequently to reduce the number of slashes"
...
"Turns out after 1 week, there are more slashing penalties being called. The situation is hopeless. Just forget it."
