Stupid Brides
So, articles like this one
http://calsun.canoe.ca/News/Alberta/...38644-sun.html
in the sun, really make me furious.
If you are dumb enough to 'plan' your wedding with little or no wiggle room for something like plane troubles (or weather troubles which are more likely) then you shouldn't be surprised when things go wrong...

I couldn't believe thier idiocy when I read that.
What were they expecting? Did they actually want Transat to keep flying even with the mechanical difficulties? It's not like there are extra planes just sitting around in case this happens.
I don't get the point of the story, or why it's front page news on the Sun. I've had flights delayed because of mechanical issues and I was glad to sit on the ground until things got fixed.
Boo hoo, they might miss their weddings. Too bad. They'd be a lot more upset if their plane crashed into a mountain.
I also like that there is no mention of any of their fiances. They were probably all getting drunk in the airport bar trying to figure out a way to get away from those psychos.
Stupid Edmonton chicks.

From Global news last night; the people they talked to weren't upset that the plane had to divert. They were upset that nobody from the airline told them what was happening. They didn't know if another plane was on the way; if they had to stay in Calgary overnight, for 2 nights, or if they should start making other arrangements with other airlines.
Yeah, I've had delays as well when flying. It happens. But the airline has always had a rep there for us to talk to so we can know what is happening.

Well if you read the article it states that you have to be in Mexico 3 days before you are allowed to get married. On a one week vacation that doesn't give you a lot of wiggle room regardless if you get down there on time or not. Charter flights like this one fly Saturday to Saturday and resorts are booked well in advance and you don't always get to pick the exact date for the wedding that you want. It does make it a bit tough to figure out all the logistics.
I like to laugh at Edmontonians as much as anyone but I do understand their concern. Nobody from Air Transat was there to help them or let them know what was going on. They were basically just dropped in the airport. I would be furious as well. Getting them a plane today might be too late for some people. It isn't those people fault, and they shouldn't have to fix the problem. Air Transat is the one that had the mechanical failures, it is up to them to make things right. So far they haven't done that although it looks like they are making an effort to help them down in Mexico.
These people paid a LOT of money to have their wedding in Mexico. Not too mention all the money their guests paid to go down to join them. I completely see why they are ****ed.
I would be ****ed at Air Transat if they made me miss a day of my vacation even if I wasn't getting married down there.

Air Transat is a terrible company. I'd avoid them like the plague but they pretty much have a monopoly on the business.

Anyone else laugh out loud when they read this line? The airline (even if it is a discount charter service) diverted the plane for precautionary measures to Calgary, then said due to technical difficulties they wouldn't proceed.
Ummm... that sounds like they care an aweful lot about not having a plane full of people crash

I think the point they are trying to make is that they didn't care these people weren't going ot make it down in time for the Weddings and they weren't doing anything to help them out.
Why didn't they have another plane ready to go sooner?

It's a lot of work and expense to have another "just in case" plan sitting around an airport. Not really a logical plan.

Just for the record, we're NOT all stupid!
Like others have said, I don't think their problem was with the fact that the plane was having mechanical difficulties but was that nobody was really letting them know what was going on. Getting married is stressful as is and I'm thinking that they are probably more concerned about the fact that their family and friends have spent A LOT of money to be with them for their wedding and it might not even happen now - that's where my concern would be .. I'd feel terrible about that.

It's a lot of work and expense to have to completely replan a wedding. Especially a destination wedding, especially when it isn't your fault.
Bottom line is Air Transat is at fault. They are the ones who should pay for the mistake and make things right with their paying customers.
You can't tell me you wouldn't be ****ed if this happened to you whether you were getting married or not. How badly do you want to spend one of your hard earned vacation days in an Airport when you have been looking forward to the beaches of Mexico?
If they didn't have another plane sitting around waiting perhaps they need to hire WestJet or some other airline to take these people to Mexico. There wasn't even anyone from Air Transat at the Airport to tell them what was going on or when their flight would be taking off again. That is brutal customer service.

I agree. See my earlier post on Air Transat. I'm leaving for Mexico on Friday and I'll completely ****ed if something like this happened, but I'd be way more ****ed if they were too worried about getting everyone to Puerto Vallarta on time and completely ****ed on all the safety concerns. You can't have your cake and eat it too. My main problem with Air Transat at this is that there was obviously some shoddy maintenance work done that caused this problem.

Could you imagine the press conference when their plane went down?
"These people were adament to go to Mexico to get married, and were not concerned with the mechanical failure. We decided, in an effort to uphold our standing on the marriage laws in mexico, to fly the plane anyway. It seemed like a good idea at the time."

I can see the potential for a new Wedding insurance bussiness to spawn up. Make people fear that the plane won't make it and pay $100 for wedding cancellation insurance. When it comes to weddings everything is stupidly over priced and those who are smart with their money, would just avoid getting married.

Expecting great service from Air Transat is like eating at McDonald's and expecting your ass not to explode.

wouldn't travel insurance cover just such a circumstance?
I'm also curious as to what kind of staff a charter airline would have in another city "just incase" of mechanical problems. It's not like they fly regularly scheduled routes out of Calgary like WestJet, AirCanada, and AirCanada Jazz (I'm assuming) so it's not like they'd have a complete compliment of staff at the airport able to accomodate them. I'm willing to bet the staff on hand knew just as much as the passangers. The ones who'd have extra info to share (like the pilots) would have been busy with the process of getting the plane in the air.
