Obscure things you enjoy: Books, movies, TV, whatever
Basically, what are the things you enjoy, be that movies, old tv shows, whatever, that you think no one else on this forum, or that you know even realized existed.
I'll start off with a couple old cartoons.
First will be Battletech, a futuristic Sci-Fi cartoon that lasted all of one season. The 2nd is Exo-Squad, a futurisitc Sci-Fi cartoon that lasted two seasons.
What do you have?

Anything and everything from the 1980s. I'm a huge fan of 80s nostalgia and I really enjoy watching shows like Made in the 80s, History of the 80s, and what not. I was a child during this decade, but I think I was too young to really embrace it.
I was ecstatic to find MuchMoreMusic airing Fame reruns every night.

Have Gun - Will Travel.......love this show among many older westerns. Unfortunately just found out today they are doing a remake movie due out in 2008. I say unfortunately because it will be starring Eminem. Ouch.

I like to strangle flightless barnyard birds that live in my pants and I like books written by Robertson Davies.
Oh and sure sure this is bad and may not jive with my online personality but I do like to practice casual racism.

it's unbelievable mindless pap but i really liked two wing commander books, 'end run' by stasheff and forstchen, and 'fleet action' by forstchen alone.
they play to the lowest common denominator and are stupidly simplistic but for whatever reason my knowledge of that doesn't detract, and i still read one or the other once a year or so.
forstchen would be more notable for his alternate history work with newt gingrich, which may explain his need for real bad bad guys...

I'm a huge 80s fan, and specifically a lot of rare 80s stuff that doesn't get played on your typical retro show...and a lot of it that I have is probably considered "really bad music" by a lot of people.
Other obscure stuff:
I own a VHS copy of an old animation series called The Maxx - played in Teletoon years ago and I think its absolutely fantastic.
I'm also a pretty big fan of the old Fujitive series and would love to own that on DVD.
Also a big Twin Peaks nut - huge.
Not sure if this applies or not but I have a real fascination with abandoned buildings.
Oh yeah I also like to collect old Kitsch stuff - my favourite item is a Duck Phone that quacks instead of ringing just like on "Silver Spoons".

I don't watch anime, but Golden Boy is one of the most hilarious cartoons I've ever seen. If you haven't watched it before, I highly recommend it.

Certainly applies... I'd love to hear more about that, sounds interesting to say the least.

Nonsense! Johnny Hates Jazz, Simple Minds, The Spoons, and The Payolas (as examples) are some of my favorites too.

Well right now my main focus is some of the buildings in the East Village - including the old King Eddie - I'd like to get in there and poke around, but I understand there was some pretty toxic mold so I gotta be careful with that. But just gotta wear a face mask and should be OK.
Some of my favourite buildings to check out in the past have been old gas stations, cafes and what not on the side of highways - though it can be pretty hard to convince your travel mate that you need to stop to check out an old building. A tough sel.

I am a huge fan of the old sci fi TV shows from the 60's. There was the Time Tunnel, Vovage To The Bottom Of The Sea, and Lost In Space - both of which I have on DVD.
Then there's the original Outer Limits TV show.

Recordland in Inglewood is tremedous for picking up a lot of obscure 80s stuff. I'm consistently amazed about what I'm able to find down there.

Oh, thought of another one. A few years ago I read a book called Road To Hell about the biker culture and the Hell's Angels in Canada - it peaked my interest into that whole part of our subculture and I have found myself since checking out a lot of their web sites, and what not to learn more about that culture. Really though I find any part of society like that, that exists "just under the surface" so to speak completely fascinating.

i saw one of those that had me ENTHRALLED, called 'the 100 days of the dragon' or something, a very similar theme to the original 'manchurian candidate', seriously compelling stuff.
that old show, plus the original twilight zone, freaked me out as a kid WAY more than the schlocky 80s horror ever could.
especially the twilight zone with that sunken boat / sub and the tapping sound.

i got a kick out of that book, and how much i've seen in calgary and (especially...) kelowna that fits right in.
interesting stories also in there aboot the 'bad old days' in quebec, where tough beat cops would walk the streets looking for bikers to beat up.

My brother loves books on the Hell's Angels. He read one years ago about a guy who went undercover in.. the guy beat up author Hunter S Thompson while undercover too. I've been meaning to read it for a while now but haven't gotten around to it.
My brother has the Hell's Angels fasination, I'll read anything that has to do with the Mob. The New York Gambino crime family, I've read alot on them and their cohorts.

I wonder if you could help me out.. this is a movie from the 60's I beleive.. a Sci Fi movie. I watched it a year back on the Turner Classic movie channel. A group of people are doing work on some distant planet. A man already lives there with his drop dead gorgeous daughter and a Robot he build that can whip up anything if he is asked. An engineer character asked him to make some alcohol I beleive.
The daughter also made out with about three crew members throughout the movie.. I've been wanting to know the title since I seen it.

I am almost obsessed with knowing where people are from (ie born) and making sure I know exactly where it is physically. It is something I've wanted to know about every person I've ever met.
Ghost towns are something I would spend a lot of time and money on if I had the time and money. Specifically, ghost towns that aren't famous or preserved as a sort of living museum. You know, the places you have to find out about from locals who have been to them or even just heard about them. That sort of history fascinates me to no end. It is amazing where people would build towns in the 19th century. Crazies!
David Lynch gets me too Jiri. Twin Peaks, yeah, but the rest too. Blue Velvet is a great movie. I just love the disturbing wierdness of it all. He can make something horrific so beautiful. Remember the scene in Wild At Heart where they come up on the car wreck? Sherilyn Fenn's character is in shock and dying and I couldn't help but think how freaking beautiful the scene was. Plus, he's a native Montanan!
