So kind of getting the impression they want guarantees that Victoria park won't suck like the current area around the arena does.

Answer:

I don't want too get too cornered on that. We are not asking the City to give us money. This is public infrastructure. Every meaningful city in the world has a gathering space, where they can get together etc.

Question:

You didn't answer the question.

Answer:

There are many different ways of pay back. CRL is pay back. It is City revitalization. That is how the City should expect to get money back. That is the pay back. CRL payback is massive etc. There are also social returns, cultural returns...etc. We are the catalyst for that. There's a lot of payback.

LOL SEAN SPICER 101......HAHAHAHAH!
So if the CRL is payback then the Flames arena should pay back the city with the incremental value improvements caused by the arena itself. The issue here is the flames want the Arena excluded from the CRL. He's right though. The city fronts a portion of the Capital to develop the area then the businesses (ie the flames) pay the additional tax base.

They can't be happy with that face on the negotiation, it plays really poorly. Do they agree with everything the guy has done tactically? If so then they are out of touch.

Or they cringe too but are reluctant to make a change because a) it will look bad? b) he's valuable in other areas for the company?

They didn't do themselves any favour in that mess.
King is doing exactly what Edwards wants. This is the way he negotiates.

Though they might be disappointed in King's style of communication. They probably figured he has the pulse of the Sun readership element of the public, but the city has become more sophisticated.

If that's the type of talk the City has been dealing with in negotiations, I'm surprised the City wasn't the one to 'surrender' or step away.

Exactly! Can't believe you guys are so blind to this, the surround area of the dome sucks because the city and the Stampede board.

That's why they wanted the West side because its away from the Stampede board and the city's East Village plans.

CMLC is now running things for the Stampede, so there's that.

This deal is such a gift to CSEC.

I hope the city stands their ground on this one.

hmmmmmmm

King's other accomplishment - Front page story of the Herald is not about the City's proposal. It's about the Flames response to the proposal.

A slight nuance but not to be overlooked if it continues.

Well, no. At least not involuntarily, considering 1/3 is ticket tax. If you buy a ticket, I guess you are paying a portion of 1/3. I don't buy the demolition part and the land values are debatable. But for the sake of argument, 1/3 is "contribution" (I'm still not clear on if it's non-repayable though - just that it's "non-property tax").

Good news for King is after that performance he's first in line when Sarah Sanders gets the boot. I'm not sure you could have dreamed up a worse presser. Guess he could have said we traded Gaudreau for the Ice District.

Buckle up fans. This is going to be a long process. Be interesting to see who gives.

As a fan and tax payer, I thought the city proposal was fair and wondering how they could be far off. After the Flames presser, they are far off. This will be long and ugly.

King should have quit before he faced today.....he can't unsay what he just wanted to say.

Don't talk about honesty Ken.....it makes you look really uncomfortable.

What bothers me the most is how entitled he seems.wow.

The deal wasn't that fair but I agree with you that after hearing the presser they are far apart. They are arguing about the ticket tax!!! The ticket tax!!! The ticket tax is the easiest part of this deal.

Looks like we aren't getting a new arena for a long time. Screw both sides, I'm pissed now. All I wanted was an integrated arena like Montreal, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Toronto instead of one surrounded by parking lots with nothing around it.
