I still think Treliving will pull a rabbit out of his hat here and make a dion like trade where a bunch of crap goes the other way...maybe even including Stajan.

Stajan is not a bunch of crap.

no he isn't but he isn't at the same level as Duchene. I just mentioned him because he was actually in the dion trade.

I don't see why we need Duchene honestly. I'd prefer a winger of his calibre

Although Duchene is only signed for two more years, that may work for the Flames from a cap management standpoint given that the contracts for Bennett and Tkachuk expire at the same time.

Plus "Gillies/McDonald"? Gee, I wonder who would be picked.

salary needs to be going the other way. One of Brouwer or Stajan has to be included. Duchene has a 6 mill cap hit and even though the Flames have some space, they have to make room. Brouwer has a 4.5 cap hit for a few years so if he could be included it would help and I still think Stajan holds more value, especially for the Avs if they think they can trade him at the deadline.
Sakic completely dropped the ball with Duchene. He could have got a lot for him but now teams know that a deal has to happen so he won't get close to what he would have earlier.

Agreed, from what I saw of McDonald at Penticton, I don't think he's AHL caliber let alone NHl.

If Treliving wasn't kicking the Duchene tires he's not doing his job. Knowing how tirelessly he works in trying to improve his team I'm sure he's tabled an offer or two as has probably half the league. Unless someone intimate with the situation has leaked some information this probably is akin to throwing darts but with Treliving you just never know as I certainly wouldn't rule out as impossible.

As it stands right now, Stajan is probably on the first if not the second PK. He's a pretty good leader and a decent face off guy. He could be flipped at the deadline when the avs are having their annual fire sale.

Looking at the Flames strength it is the blueline in both active roster players and prospects. Assume none of the top 5 are being traded then at least one of the big 4 (Valimaki, Fox, Kylington, Anderson) is on the move. I would also think that Gillies would be an attractive option. I don't see the Flames loving Parsons but Gillies would be expendable in a Duchene deal. Lastly we would have to send some salary the other way.
What about this offer. Ferland, Fox, Gillies for Duchene?

There would be a dozen teams that could easily match or exceed this offer if that's all it took, which I don't think is even close.

Depends what people really think of Fox.

Also how many teams can take on $6M while sending back less than $2M?

At the end of the day I think a team like Nashvillemor Montreal or Columbus will cough up the pieces the Avs want. Flames can't offer much more than prospects at this point

Duchene also scored 30 goals once, had 41pts last year and only has 2 years left on his deal. He is not worth what the Avs are asking.

That may be true, but that's still an extremely underwhelming offer you just put together. It was Ferland and two question marks. No chance that gets it done, and as I said, could easily be out-matched by a multitude of other teams.
