He doesn't look far away as much as he will have to wait until the Flames see room for him on the big club, or injuries. His size was always going to hold him back from an NHL job, but he's improving everything he can control at an incredible rate each season and in each new league.
NHL teams just don't want to fill their roster with too many small guys.
|
There's no question he's improving. I just don't think he has the the strength yet. And without that, a smaller guy has to be pretty dominant. And he just isn't yet.
Another year in Stockton and maybe he'll be ready.

I'm sure they'll unveil the new one just prior to the Season Opener.

Jankowski is definitely heads and shoulders above everyone else out there. The guy that is really impressing me is Dube. I didn't know whether his game would translate, but I think he looks more effective out there than he did in junior. Great looking young player IMO.

It's only a matter of time until Tkachuk and Ferland take over that role (hopefully)

I think Mangiapane could make it if he played in a pest role.

I'll give Feaster and him all the credit in the world for what they did, and Burke and Treviling always do as well. The problem with both of them is that their style will return you some gems that you can look back on, but they're not the guys you want in charge of a stable rebuild.
Weisbrod and Feaster will get you a couple "wow, that turned out awesome!" moves/picks, but the "smarter than everyone else" persona will most often have you looking less smart than everyone else in the best league in the world.
Trevling and the current scouting team have been hitting solidly everywhere for three years now, and that eventually turns into an elite, stocked NHL team and prospect base.

I'd agree. Ferly should be getting PP time for sure.
He had 2 PPGs last year with barely any time, has maybe the best shot on the team, and a great net-front presence.

Olli Juolevi just had a shift unworthy of someone taken one pick ahead of Matthew Tkachuk. Does he do that a lot?

That Healey check to separate that 'nuck from the puck was nice.

Phillips is a nice junior player. He's a lot of fun. I don't see him translating to the next level at all.
