Are we starting a group buy for the Jagr jerseys now?

Don't buy a jersey before Jagr officially signs. That's just bad karma, like those Sabres McDavid jerseys.

It's definitely a good option to keep. But I feel the opportunity cost comparison of signing someone still useful on the roster as a FA and giving up no assets, vs acquiring someone mid-season using future assets (during the most expensive time of the year too), is too much to swallow in light of this team's current cap status and contention window.

If there was ever a time for Jagr to finally make his decision, it's now. The perfect spot is open and there's more than enough left to entice Jagr to give us a go. The fact that we're a team who could contend this year makes me think that we're the team Jagr has been waiting for all offseason.

And the Flames don’t have a lot of assets insofar as draft picks, for this years draft, to give up.

Get it done this week now with Sam out of the way.

It's a lot of cap space to hang onto though.

If Bennett came in around $3M, I could see them sitting, but there is clearly room for another player now.

Especially if your ready to "go for it" now - which seems to be the message from Flames management.

Flames are definitely in a spot where they know what they can offer and work out a deal. Hope Jagr happens this week that would cap off a solid summer by Treliving where he made moves to address the 3 biggest needs

Actually, based on the TSN article I just read, I'm now convinced Jagr will be a Flame.

http://www.tsn.ca/jagr-willing-to-wa...offer-1.848538

Check out some of the quotes from him regarding the Flames:

- "It's about going to a team where they have, let's say, fewer wings; going to the team that has a chance to win the Stanley Cup; and going to the team that plays similar kind of hockey as I do," Jagr said. "And to the team where I know there [are] a couple of players that I could click with playing together."

- "The interest has been there from the [July 1,]" Jagr said. "But it's tough to consider how big that interest really was, especially when it's changing from one day to another."

- "Money is a factor, too"

All his criteria can be met by the Flames and obviously it was reciprocated from the Flames side as we had contacted him. When he was asked about the Flames he didn't shut the idea down either. To me it sounds like there's mutual interest and I don't think there's a more perfect situation for Jags. I feel almost too confident that it's going to happen.

Please no Jagr. You want to ink a 40 something RW to this roster - make it the guy who has left it all on the ice for the Flames - not the guy who is chasing records and money.

I think its more about signing the guy that can still contribute and isnt a defensive liability.

Wasn't there a Flames/Oilers game where the Flames were beating the Oilers and there was a group of of Oiler fans wearing McDavid Oiler jerseys? Man I hate the Oilers! I want to beat their a$$ so much

The Flames called him July 1. Now they can afford him, and they have a newly minted $1.95M centre who needs a winger.

Jagr may be in his mid 40s, but he still plays like he's in his early 30s. He could be real valuable on the powerplay and can still score at even strength. He was 7th in the league in even strength points in 15-16 despite only playing 17 minutes. He can still play at an elite level and brings elements that the current forward group just doesn't have. At worst we can shelter him and start him exclusively in the offensive zone.

I remember that, they also wore paperbags over their heads lol . It was for a bunch of games, not just against the flames. Lets hope that is the case this season.

Jagr makes way more sense.

Plus you don't want to bring back Iginla and maybe he sucks. Then it taints his memory. Like when the Leafs traded for Gilmour and he got hurt in his first game back Sucks. Not worth it.

Jagr would be awesome on the Flames and would make your 3rd line a lot better. Give that man his money!
