You see some nice moments from her then some really poor shots. Tough to watch.

Commentator giving Genie credit for maintaining her composure - I don't know, at this point, I wouldn't mind seeing a couple of racket smashes.

26 winners, 46 unforced errors - Not going to win many matches with numbers like those.

I wonder what she gave up to the devil for that one year run?

Looked like someone that just wanted to leave. Maybe she's got a trip to go on or something.

Now comes the fun part for Genie: Having to win three matches just to play in the majors next year. Baring an unexpectedly strong fall swing, she's going to be outside the auto entry zone for majors (and she already is for big non-majors). Lots of soul searching ahead, but I don't think it's unrealistic to speculate she could be out of tennis by this time next year. She's gonna have to dig deep to get things back on the upswing.

I wonder what Nike pays her. She just doesn't seem to care about tennis anymore.

She made more than $3 million total last year from sponsors (and the occasional first round exit cheque). But can't imagine any of her current deals will be getting renewed without a significant drop in what she's being paid.

I think she still cares, but she needs a total overhaul of her game, starting with her serve. If she doesn't get her first serve in, her second serve is just a puff ball that her opponent tees off on putting Genie immediately on the defensive. So many of those second serves are right in the middle of the box as well, you at least need to try to move your opponent off court.
As far as her groundstrokes are concerned, she goes for way too many winners when it's not needed. Also, her footwork is not good, it's like she's been instructed to camp on the baseline and try to dictate points from that position, but when her opponent hits a deep ball, she's not in a good position to make an effective return.

It's definitely not a stretch at all.
She is churning through coaches like they're going out of style, which is a clear indication that either nobody wants to work with her and/or she is entirely un-coachable. The fact she is still searching for a reliable service game and has not adjusted her playing style at all to accommodate her limitations reeks of an unwillingness to listen. If she was going to get things back on track it would have happened by now.
At this point she can't even beat lower ranked players with any consistency. Unless she drastically changes her attitude and priorities, her WTA level career is over.

so you're saying that other than her serve, groundstrokes, footwork, strategy and coaching, Genie's tennis game is alright. return to top 10, here we come!

Like i said that run in 2014 has to be the biggest underdog, flukey run in the history of tennis! It had to take something supernatural to make it to a grand slam final with her abilities.

Kyrgios is battling through a bum right shoulder and just got a visit from the trainer. Let's see if he continues to fight or pulls the chute.
