Pretty good thread we have going on here but please let's not let this turn into another thread where one Oiler fan picks his butt and tries to show everyone what he discovered. PepsiFree got a good dig in, let's move on.

I'd imagine the Fanattic staff trembling about the influx of Jagr orders going to be coming in if he does sign here.

I know I'd be ordering one the second they announce it.

Poor bastards.

Yeah, a Jagr signing means an immediate pre-order for me.

I saw the words "Jagr", signing" and thought it said "imminent" instead of immediate. Didn't read the post, and I almost had a heart attack.

I've never owned a crested jersey, so I would feel a little conflicted getting Jagr jersey before a Gaudreau jersey, but it would definitely be a nice problem to have.

Eklund saying it's close

Cue the post stating this is proof the signing won't happen.

Good, this means Bennett's contract is closer.
(Note: I didn't say this was proof it won't happen)

Not gonna be that guy but I am genuinely curious how Eklund got his following. Did he actually call a couple trades/signings correctly at some point or do people just really like hearing rumours about their team even when they aren't true?

While it's true that Jagr would not be here long-term, he's such a legend that a Flames Jagr jersey would never really go out of style.

Perhaps a mixture of both. Even if Eklund's wrong majority of the time, fans find it entertaining because it's stirring the pot.

I would really enjoy it if this happens.

I remember it happening during the lockout talks of 2004/05. Fans were desperate for any information/hope, and these were also the early days of "insider" social media. There was a lot of mystery in regards to who exactly Eklund was, and again, there was hope among NHL fans that he was legitimate.

I have no idea why he still has a following though.

Maybe Jagr gave Treliving a 12 hour window to make an offer, but King was on a rafting trip and unavailable by phone.

I like this line about Jagr from Eklund's blurb:

Quote:
Giroux would tell anyone who would listen how much Jags meant to the team and especially the development of the younger players..The message from Jagr is simple:

Work "over" hard. Work hard every shift. Taking a single shift off, no matter the situation, is not what true superstars do. Giroux and Voracek took that very much to heart and they found another level. And they aren't shy to credit Jagr.
Quote:
Jagr is a player/coach essentially.
