Indeed. Very few human beings seem to put as much effort into their craft as Jagr does.

Regardless of one's stance on him, they can't take that away.

Cali, can you shed some light on his playoff performance in 2016 for me? I seem to remember he had to be rested a bunch but that could be completely wrong. Did he see the ice a lot then?

Would be fun to have this smile on the bench!

I don't know if they would box themselves in this way. That is really no wiggle room or flexibility.

Agreed ...

I think it's 2.5M max for any additional player once Bennett is signed.

They could spread it out if need be. Give him easy to achieve performance bonuses and offset any overage to next season (Like Iginla did his year in Boston).

46 years old. The wheels will suddenly fall off. Yes, he had some success last season on a team that didn't make the playoffs.

People have been saying this for 4-5 years now. If the wheels were going to fall off they would have by now.

What will likely end this guys career is some sort of knee or back ailment that he simply does not have the perseverance to rehab through anymore.
There is no negative to bringing him in. If he gets hurt or can't compete, you bench him or limit his role significantly. At this point he is blocking nobody except for someone that simply isn't ready.

Maybe. Is signing Jagr worth spreading dead money into next year?

I would look at it this way... fans would hardly notice it because it'd probably come out to roughly the same size as Raymond's (by then expired) buyout and that spot on the roster (either this year or next) would likely be sub-1M player in any event.

The Flames contention window is open right now and Jagr is a bonafide legend who is still a valuable NHL player. To me... that's worth it. It's entirely fair to not have that opinion but it's where I'm at. My head thinks that he'd be a valuable contributor and the heart wants what the heart wants.

For Jagr, all reason and logic goes out the window. Make it happen.

Just from a purely "holy s*** that would be awesome" perspective, I am fully in favour.

I totally understand your line of reasoning/emotion. And its similar to how I feel about Iginla. We are fans after all, and it is more of an emotional connection than a rational one.

The contention window will be even wider next year (hopefully) so the idea of stealing from next year to help this year gives me pause.

Based on his track record, getting Foo correct was either just blind luck or was given to him by his one actual source.

This Jagr rumour follows his MO from earlier in the summer where a mainstream media guy linked a player to a team and he piggybacked by throwing out a guess for term and dollar, but rather than saying it's a guess, he makes it seem like insider info he was given.

To be fair...he only mentioned Edmonton had contact with Wideman and Iginla. So you saying that he "broke" those signings is just as dubious as what you suspect he's doing.

He played at least 17 minutes a game in the 2016 playoffs. Lack of ice-time didn't seem to be a problem, he just didn't produce. I'm sure Jagr could give you 40 points in the regular season, but when the intensity level jacks up for the playoffs can he still produce?

I mean his 208 playoff games should say something

Having Jagr in the room might be the best thing to revitalize Mike Smith - he would feel like a veritable spring chicken compared with Jags!

For me the difference between Iginla & Jagr is that when I watch Jagr I see a guy who you could justify signing on merit alone (his legendary status then becomes just an awesome bonus). I just can't do that for Iginla anymore... I don't need nostalgia to think signing Jagr is a good idea.

I don't see how his numbers from 10+ years ago is relevant considering his current age. In his last 39 playoff games since coming back to the NHL he has scored a grand total of one goal.
