Nothing laughable about it. Murray's had outstanding playoff stats the last two years. He has had better stats than star goalies that would be considered franchise players. And it's seriously also worth considering that about two thirds of the games in which Murray has accumulated those playoff stats have come against conference finalists or cup finalists, not first round fodder.

How highly would you value a young Lundqvist, Quick or Kipper?

Just looking at the evidence now, which is all we have, Murray's got more to show than pretty much anyone else under 25.

Not sure Marner has the miles on his resume to be up that high.

Only players I'm taking over Gaudreau are: McDavid, Matthews, Laine, Eichel and Barkov

Kucherov had an amazing year last season, but the previous two he was beneath Johnny. I see them as equivalents.

I also see Schiefele as an equivalent. Guy is playing with 4 arguable top line forwards and shot an outrageous 20% last season. Need to see him repeat it.

Pastrnak is the last equivalent for me.

Drai and Forsberg are not on Johnny's level.

Schiefele also scored 29 goals in 15-16.
Think it's hard to argue that he's not the real deal. Not saying he's ahead of Gaudreau though.

I mean, he is the real deal either way. My thing is if he's superior to Gaudreau.

Don't understand how McKinnon can possibly be ranked ahead of Barkov, Pasternak, Monahan, etc?

Yeah that's not right. I like Mackinnon. But it's at the point now where he's living off his high draft position, rookie season, and the magical elixir of potential. How many more seasons is he allowed to get by on that? At some stage, points and results matter.

I think he should be on the top 25 list. At the very least much closer to Monahan, and most certainly not ahead of Barkov.

McKinnon can do his thing at high speed with top line mates, as shown in the World Cup. To me also Sean had an off year which lowered his ranking.

Number 11 - Johnny Gaudreau.

Really surprised he's not much much higher.

They need the top 10 spots for McDavid and Matthews.

In all seriousness though, the fact that we have 3 players in this list (so far) is a cause for celebration:

I'm guessing that will be all for Calgary.

A great season from Tkachuk puts him into contention in the future though. I still think they've gone too far on some one year wonders thus far.

9. Jack Eichel.

That's criminally low for Eichel. He's gonna bust out over ppg this season.

I know there are no flames left but it's August so let's keep this going.

7. Filip Forsberg
8. Mark Scheifele

Interesting to see Forsberg so high. He is a stud goal scorer but shouldn't be above Eichel. Can't believe Draisiatl is going to go above Eichel as well.

Interestingly The Hockey News new yearbook top 50 ranking only has 4 players under the age of 25 ranked higher than Johnny Gaudreau (McDavid, Matthews, Scheifele and Kucherov). Maybe they use different criteria (proven performance vs potential)?

Aaron Ekblad at 15 and Jack Eichel at 9 is definitely criminally low. Marner at 14 with one season under his belt is a joke.

With 7 spots left, I would venture a guess something like...

McDavid
Matthews
Kucherov
Laine
Draisaitl
Lindholm
Murray

I think Werenski is way too high. No way I select him over Gaudreau, MacKinnon, Ekblad or Barkov. Or Hamilton or Jones, for that matter.

I would also take those same 4 (Gaudreau, MacKinnon, Ekblad, and Barkov) over Draisaitl, Lindholm and Murray, but that's just me.

Edit: sorry, only 6 left. So I would assume no Murray

Gaudreau definitely above Scheifele.

Eichel definitely above Draisatl.

Lindholm has got to be one of the most underrated players in the league. That dude is by far the best defenseman under 25 right now.

3 Flames
3 Jets
3 Leafs
2 Oilers
1 Hab

0 Canucks

lol

11 of 25 are on 4 Canadian teams, pretty exciting times ahead.

Also, 2 each for Columbus, Nashville, and Florida... 17 of the 25 are on 7 teams
