Total meltdown for Trump once the teleprompter portion was over. Basically sympathized with the Nazis. Insanity

This is actually worse than what he said on Saturday. He's more or less admitting he's a white supremacist. Basically once the teleprompter is off he reveals the real Trump.

Watching it now, it seems to be less of a press conference and more of a free for all. People are cutting him off and attempting to argue with him, while he keeps repeating "fake news" and "I want to have all the facts, unlike some reporters". You'd think whoever is in charge of this would try to instill something resembling organization.

I was worried he would do the right thing- but Trump just has to be Trump! Having a world leader so petty and vindictive is scary in the big picture though, I'm glad there's protocol in place to stop him from getting angry and bombing someone over a twitter beef...

One thing that is incredibly about Trump is in reveling what the GOP is all about. He is waking people up to the idea that actions are more important than words.

It is easy to make public condemnations of white supremacy. What is hard is to resist the party line of targeting minority voters to remove them from elgibility to vote. It is easy to say bad things about Nazis but it is difficult to spearhead policy that would curb extremist militias and hate groups.

The thing Republicans find so repugnant about Trump is he doesn't use the dog whistles, he is open. He doesn't provide the political cover to appeal clandestinely to race voters, he doesn't say all the right things while doing all the wrong things, he just tells you boldly what is happening. This is what rubs guys like McCain and McConnell and Graham so raw.

They are talking about this right now on MSNBC, about Reagan and bushes and dole condemning white supremacy. Sure, they said great things when it mattered to give them the cover to explicitly exploit blatant racist sentiments for their base support.

Probably, I imagine this would be way more on the rails if it was in the press briefing room. Although, it's Trump, so probably still pretty far off the rails.

Anyway, so far, the highlights:
  • the driver of the car that killed the girl is a murderer and a terrible person and maybe it was terrorism but I won't say it yet;
  • Steve Bannon is a good person who gets a bad rap from the media;
  • Senator McCain voted against us getting good health care and doesn't know what he's talking about re: McMaster;
  • What about the alt-left that came charging at the alt-right, do they have any semblance of guilt;
  • You had a group on one side that was and you had a group on the other side that was also very violent, and nobody wants to say that but I'll say it;
  • Not all of the people in Charlotteville were Neo-nazis or white supremacists by any stretch, some of them just wanted to protest the statue being taken down;
  • This week it's Robert E Lee, I notice that Stonewall Jackson is coming down, I wonder is George Washington next week and Thomas Jefferson the week after;
  • Whether the statue of Robert E Lee should stay up is up to a local town or community depending on where it is located;
  • New jobs being created will have a positive impact on race relations because that's what people want;
  • We're spending lots on inner cities;
  • I'm not putting anybody on a moral plane, I'm saying two groups went at each other with clubs and it was a horrible thing to watch;
  • There was a group on this side, you just called them the left, violently attacking the other group, so you can say what you want but that's the way it is;
  • I think there's blame on both sides, I have no doubt about it and you don't have any doubt about it either and if you reported it accurately, you would see that;
  • You had people who were very fine people on both sides, you had people who were there to protest the taking down of, to them, a very important statue, and the renaming of a park;
  • George Washington was a slave owner, are we going to take down statues to George Washington? How about Thomas Jefferson? Are we going to take down his statue?
  • You're changing history, you're changing culture, and you had people - and I'm not talking about the Neo-Nazis, who should be condemned totally - but you had many people in that group other than them and they get treated unfairly;
  • The people who were protesting the statue being taken down had a permit;
  • I own a house in Charlottesville. I know a lot about Charlottesville. It's a great place.
  • I own one of the largest wineries in the United States, it's in Charlottesville.

That seems to have been the gist of the whole thing.

It's remarkable that anyone can be as dense and narcissistic as he is and not be able to see or hear themselves being called out on it. It's like he simply only hears what he wants to.

Truly mind boggling.

When you get David Duke thanking you (again), it's probably a good sign that you're doing it wrong...

David Duke @DrDavidDuke
Thank you President Trump for your honesty & courage to tell the truth about #Charlottesville & condemn the leftist terrorists in BLM/Antifa
