Going with #14 shade welders lenses versus some eclipse glasses my in-laws bought online.

Or do you mean which type of latte's will I forego? Chai? Vanilla Bean? Perhaps even the delicious Nutella version?

For larger size welding glass, they are about $6 each. (4.5" x 5.5"). I think that's what I'll get.

Smaller ones (2 x 4.5") are less than $3 each.

Acklands only has the 2" x 4.5" available. Perfect size for the kiddos and if you hold it away from your face a bit it should do the trick for adults.

I bought the flimsy ones NASA recommended that were ISO certified for eclipse viewing...I think I'll survive.

Jokes aside, I think I'll trust what the industry uses for welders who are exposed to the ame kind of radiation and brightness all day long, vs something designed to work for 3 minutes.

I got the time off work.

I'll be heading to Belgrade, MT on Sunday, then to somewhere near Rexburg or Driggs on the morning of the 21st. 3.5 hour drive to Driggs, or 3 hour drive to Rexburg. I'll probably have to get on the road by 5:30am

I have hotels reserved in Belgrade for the 20th and 21st, and Red Lodge (for the 21st) if I decide to head into Yellowstone for a few days.

I would like to drive the Beartooth. It might be a long drive going from Rexburg / Driggs to Red Lodge through Jackson / Yellowstone on the 21st, but I would like to take the entire day on the 22nd for the Beartooth and Old Faithful.

If you had the foresight to book your accommodations well in advance, I'd recommend calling the hotel/campground to confirm that everything is still kosher.

There have been a few hotels here in Oregon that have either raised the rates on customers, or canceled and re-listed rooms altogether.

NASA is warning against knockoff eclipse goggles:

If you search a retail website like Amazon for “eclipse” these days, you’ll be inundated by eclipse-related eyewear. That includes unsafe knockoffs, NASA warns. NASA is now recommending only using eclipse glasses that have been manufactured by four U.S. companies: American Paper Optics, Rainbow Symphony, Thousand Oaks Optical, and TSE 17.

We will as well. Easy for us given we live in Missouri! We will still need a to drive a few hours north.

Supposed to be the first day of school for the kids. We've already informed their teachers they won't be in attendance.

Found this page this morning, it has a video that shows what the eclipse will look like in Calgary (and you can view other locations too):
https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/in/canada/calgary
You can also see all future solar and lunar eclipses on it.

Good advice. However my Dad (who does his due diligence in everything in life) got me and my family Soluna brand, and it meets the ISO 12312-2 certifications which are required as per the Nasa website.

Safety requirements here:
 https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/safety
https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/sites/d...sses_flyer.pdf (PDF link)

Has all the required statements on the glasses.

We tried them out and it seemed to work perfectly fine.

4x4, thanks, your determination and unbridled enthusiasm got me convinced too. I strongly doubt I'll live long enough to see another one. I'm thinking we'll go see it half-way between Salem & Jefferson. We can stop and spend the weekend in Portland on the way too.

I'd just go to Princess Auto if you don't have a business contact with an industrial supply place.

If you don't have success there, I'd probably call Praxair or Air Liquide. They specialize in welding supplies.

For the last partial eclipse I doubled up shade #9 and it worked well, because #11 is the darkest my shop stocks.
