I think its because Ed Sheeran has a very disarming personality. Then he starts singing and you can feel the urge to kill rising.

And if they just walk or boat around the Wall I'd be upset at such a glaringly stupid loophole.

"Its got strong magic"

Well.....we'll just get ol' Freddy the 'Ice King' to freeze the water over there and walk around it. Problem solved. Tell me again why it took thousands of years to sort this out?

We haven't seen the Wights do anything other than walk and fight, it would be a pretty big stretch for them to crew a boat.

Loved the reveal of Dragonstone, such a grand place that had been reduced to a couple sets until now.

Really liked the Lannister soldier stuff, GoT does really well with these little somber moments that reminds us that even though we think of the Lannister army as a monstrous horde, these kinds of moments remind us that a lot of people in their army are just regular folk out making a buck for their families.

Pretty sure those are White Walkers. Wights are little more than bodies that can run and stab things, but put enough of them together, and they are formidable.

Also, Arya is now a trained assassin used to going toe to toe with fighters who've mastered not only fighting skills but the supernatural. These kind of low level scrub soldiers aren't going to be a threat to her in any way. Initially when she approaches them, she does have her hand on her sword too. Had Arya recognized a threat, she would have gone about the whole thing differently, likely killing the majority of them and torturing the survivors for info.
And from a big picture angle, it seemed to me that just because they are Lannister soldiers, it doesn't make them evil.

Arya is now a stone cold killer, but I don't think it would reflect very well if she just murdered everyone she didn't like. Her character needs to be at least somewhat sympathetic. Killing Meryn ####ing Trant wasn't a big deal and mudering the Frey's seem justified but if she kills everybody then it is hard to connect with her character anymore. She'd be no better than the Hound (or at least what the Hound used to be).

Outside of showing us something about Arya, I like the scene because it showed us yet another glimpse of how the regular folk are all just pawns in the game of thrones. Seeing how even the "evil" Lannister soldiers can be regular guys was a nice change of pace. Up to this point the show has generally portrayed all Lannister soldiers through the seasons as total scumbags who probably deserve killing.

I think the scene also showed that the Lannisters were now recruiting family men instead of career soldiers to serve. It shows that their resources are being stretched thin. The gist of the conversation I got was that there was real poverty stretching through the region and people who wouldn't otherwise be soldiers were doing it to make ends meet. It also showed what life in King's Landing has become under Cersei's control. It sounds like the massacre of the faith of the seven has left a pretty large power vacuum, that Cersei hasn't bothered to fill.

Cersei is an excellent manipulator and competitor, but really looks to be clueless as an actual leader. She basically straight up tells Jaime she has no idea how to run the military or how to deal with her enemies in a geopolitical sense.

He hardly seems like the type to show much emotionally. Saying some words to long dead people he took the effort to bury seems to speak volumes though.

Also, since last season quite a few things have been "a little too convenient" to pick up the story and make the pace faster. They don't really have a choice if they're doing less episodes and only 2 more seasons to finish everything.

A friend of mine just pointed out that one of the other soldiers in the Ed Sheeran scene was the same actor who played Shaun in "This is England". Pretty cool It's not a huge show over here, but was pretty big in the UK.

Cersei is the Donald Trump of Westeros.

So actually it could run quite long compared to what we're used to. As for fewer episodes with longer run times, there's been a ton of speculation as to why. Cost seems to be a factor.
Add up the extended episodes for this season, and instead of around six and a half hours (based on average episode length for S1-S6) we get seven hours and 32 minutes. An extra hour. I have no doubt that the final season will run longer than six hours. But there's no way it will approach 9 or 10. Again - the showrunners didn't drop the episode count just to make the same amount of content in fewer episodes. If a 9 to 10 hour season were planned, so would 9 to 10 episodes.

Apparently the rest of us know how to read, and he doesn't. This thread is almost eight years old, has over 2000 replies and over 135k views. The show is actually winding down yet some posters are too stupid, ignorant or both to not talk about the books.

They're two separate entities at this point, no one cares about the differences. As a book reader there is a thread to talk about those, it shouldn't happen here. Really have to hit upon that arrogant mark.

If you can quote the rules, you can obey them.

While the books and show move further apart, there is still a ton in the books that has never even been touched on the show.

doesn't matter, you wanna talk about GoT / ASoIaF, use the book thread. every show watcher has already heard a dozen times about how most characters are uglier and grittier in the books, and our gaf meter isn't about to budge with this breaking news about Euron Greyjoy.

I continue to be intrigued by Littlefinger. Wonder what he does in Winterfell all day long. Just hangin around, taking in a few meetings, spying on Sansa.

With all the death and destruction he makes it through season after season. He's the Shane Doan of GOT.
