I left for work around 6:45 and it looked like it had just rained, but I only caught a few sprinkles just before getting to work.

I was watching the radar feed around 6am and bailed on riding, could hear thunder as well. Driving to work sucks.

I bought a foldable plastic fender from MEC and keep it in my work backpack. I was skeptical at first, but it has kept me dry so far (it did require some additional scissor-work to get it to slip over the brakes).

It had been almost two weeks since I rode my bike last, and thanks to being an unemployed bum now, I thought I'd get a bit of a ride this morning by throwing my bike into the car with him and my daughter and biking from my daughter's daycamp. Let's just say the heavy rain appeared to hit downtown around 8:45. I was drenched when I got home - if it hadn't felt like I was dragging a dead horse behind me as I cycled, I would have gone longer. Need to check the pressure on the tires. I stupidly bought the wrong pressure gauge at MEC a few weeks ago and can't find the receipt and hope I can return it.

You should be able to return it with your member number. I think it is all on file.

Well that was a bit moist for my liking. The full fenders sure make a difference though!
Still better than the bus.

It's not so bad. Rain jacket with hood kept my upper half dry, I brought an extra pair of socks and I'll dry everything else on the vents in the office.

Argh, I heard that rain hammering down at 6am and was all "NOPE". That's two days now with no riding. I'm getting grumpy. Have to drive tomorrow so Thursday for some riding, good news is I'm a bachelor next week so I'll extend all my rides to make up for this.

I had my dry lube wash off today in the rain. Very squeaky commute home.

The speculation appears to be driven by the lack of details, no trail is mentioned and no reports have been filed to the rcmp.
I hope it is not true as there are many weekends where my buddy and I are one of the first few cars in the lot

Well now. The plot thickens.
https://www.singletracks.com/blog/mt...lberta-riders/
"Recent reports of a mountain biker being clotheslined by a booby trap consisting of barbed wire strung across a popular mountain bike trail in West Bragg Creek, Alberta, are being met with suspicion by local Alberta mountain bikers online. The story has gone viral, reported in news outlets around the world–most notably CBC News in Canada, with over 27,000 social shares of the article–yet suspicions are still mounting. Most of the suspicion surrounds the GoFundMe page that the rider created for a supposedly stolen Specialized Stumpjumper FSR. The Stumpjumper in question is a 2008 model, and the rider, Stelianos Psaroudakis, is attempting to raise $8,000 for its replacement."

Buddy is getting eviserated on Facebook, his profile is now private.
There appear to be numerous gofundme pages set up for him.
So much of his story seems questionable.

I've got an old 2013 Ghost Race Lector 7000 Road Bike with that era's Shimano 105 group set. It has a Shimano 105 10-Speed rear derailleur, a Shimano 105 Compact 50-34 crank in front, and a Shimano 105 11-28 in the back (28 teeth on highest gear).
I have to climb a lot of hills to get to the vault and really to anywhere else unless I'm heading south. I would like more teeth in my rear cassette to ease climbing, as 28t is not enough in some situations and it can stall or be difficult to start back up which is an issue if I'm on a road with traffic.
Can I easily swap my rear cassette to something else with 32 or 34 teeth? Do I need a new derailleur as well? What parts should I be looking at?

Easily? I don't think so.
Typically, road bikes max out at 28/29 teeth at the rear; you might be able to add a couple of teeth, but not much more. You will have to check your rear derailleur to ensure it can handle the additional teeth.
I think only Tiagra in the Shimano line has a lower geared cassette and Chain Reaction has them in stock, but it is designed for specific shifters and derailleur.
You could try an MTB cassette, but you will need an MTB derailleur and, as strange as it sounds, I think you actually have to have a 9-speed derailleur.
Option 3 is train harder.
I run similar gearing except it's Campagnolo. I have the compact crank up front and 13-29 at the rear. What road are you going up where 34-28 isn't sufficient?

you can add a shimano 105 medium cage rear derailleur. You will be able to go up to 32 teeth
