I'd put Nashville and maybe Anaheim ahead of the Flames. Maybe. After that Calgary's is as good as anyone's.

Yeah, that group, if you replace Fleury with Dahlbeck, makes less than $9MM/year total. Crazy.

Screw it, I don't care if people think I'm a homer. I like our D better than Nashville's.

Nashville is still the strongest, 1-6. OP didn't even mention Fiala.

Fiala is the best LWD in the game today.

I think if the Flames get solid goaltending than the defense can be more active and such. I think Brodie was often limited last year, as was Giodano and Hamilton. Hamonic has always suffered from questionable tending too. All these guys could be more confident and comfortable in their games next year.

Easily Nashville. Their defence led them to within two games of the cup carrying a below average injury plagued forward group.
The next tier is Anaheim, Minnesota, San Jose and now Calgary with Carolina knocking on the door.

My personal opinion.
1) Anaheim - As much as I hate them, a core 4 of Lindholm, Fowler, Manson & Montour make me rank them the best. Was extremely impressed by those 4 in this years playoffs.
2) Calgary - With Hamonic and Stone 4,5, they are a close 2nd but Giordano's age hurts the group a bit (still a good player). The addition of Hamonic gives them a physical presence in the D-zone, which is what they lacked a bit in years prior.
3) Nashville - Solid D but I think the system and Rinne really propels them to be statistically the best D core.
4) Minnesota
5) San Jose

I like Anaheim better on paper, and I hate any defense with Alexei Emelin on it. Minnesota's D is overrated, and San Jose is top-heavy. One through six, Calgary may be the most stout.

Let me see see how the new guys play together. On paper it looks good for the Flames but it's silly to make predictions now

I think the Flames have a great shot at being the most offensive defence core in the NHL in the upcoming season. Especially with Brodie being able to freewheel from the get go.

One-legged Karlsson was pretty darn good in the playoffs. Too bad he's a one man band in Ottawa.

Nashville is in a class by themselves, and it's not that close.
Flames in the group below that.
