A stark poll by Survey Monkey finds that 89% of Republicans view President Trump as more trustworthy than CNN, and 91% of Democrats think the opposite. Among all adults, trust for CNN is 7 points ahead of Trump. Among independents, CNN wins by 15 points.

"A red flag for Democrats continues to be a perception that Trump is isolating himself from the GOP base with his tweets. Not only do most Republicans approve of his use of Twitter, but asked to describe those tweets, the No. 1 mention among the GOP is 'truthful,' with 'entertaining' in second place."
"[T]he biggest danger for Republicans is that they grow content with firing up the base: Fully three-quarters of pure independents (those that don't lean one way or the other) disapprove of Trump's tweeting, and their top three descriptors for it are 'undignified,' 'mean,' and 'dishonest.'"

I wouldn't say uneducated, but I would say they are completely polling along partisan lines and are likely expected to do so to show strength in unity.
The sad part is this poll shows just how dug in the party system is in the US. As long as the President is bringing down the country the party in power will choose to follow their leader blindly.

The party system/media bubble is one thing but you have to admit there is something to Trump when he beat everyone else in the Republican Nomination.
He crushed Golden Boy Rubio is his own state by 10 points. And that's Florida, not some perceived uneducated hick town.

In addition to having a low rate of post secondary education (relative to first world peers) and a very inconsistent primary education system, the United States has developed a culture where ignorance is celebrated.

The originator of infotainment actually goes to Fox News. CNN copied their format when they started to lose market share. Roger Ailes had incredible insight into how conservatives processed information and leveraged that to help get Nixon elected. Because of his success in television and politics Joseph Coors tapped him to breath life into the dying TVN, the original conservative news outlet. Even though that interest withered and died on the vine, the lessons he learned there helped turn Murdoch's FNC into a juggernaut with conservatives. Ailes pushed the talking head personalities and panel shows, pulling in top ratings because of the high production values. FNC became a money machine and forced the other outlets to change format and chase down the competition. CNN ended up hiring Jeff Zucker from NBC Universal and it was he who pushed CNN to what it is today. Zucker promotes the format as politics being sport, and covering it accordingly. CNN still has some of the best journalists around, just pushed into a ridiculous format and expected to perform like trained bears.
CNN's shift from hard news to entertainment actually started during the Gulf War, where they came to the realization that churning out content was more profitable than producing journalism. Fox and MSNBC took the concept further, with added partisanship, and all three have pushed this downward spiral to the point we are today.
Zakaria's show is the only one of substance left on the network, and he's been relegated to weekends. Regardless, CNN is not a legitimate source for the most part.
Most Americans do not have access to real news aside from one hour of BBC's nightly news carried on PBS, and that's a scary thing.

No, you made fun of uneducated hicks. But the working class in the U.S. today is largely made up of uneducated hicks, which is why the Democrats are no longer the party of the working class.
The partisan divisions between Democrats and Republicans today mirror deep social divisions between educated urbanites on the coasts and uneducated rural Americans in the interior. Clinton won every one of America’s 493 wealthiest counties, which are almost all urban (The Retreat of Western Liberalism by Edward Luce).
The West has become a meritocratic knowledge economy, where the educated and adaptive 20 per cent reap the rewards while the uneducated provincial middle and working class see their quality of life relentlessly declining. 15 years ago it was not socially acceptable for liberals to mock the working class and poor. Now, snickering derision is perfectly acceptable because, after all, it's those morons' own fault. Why can't they all just learn to write code, move to Seattle, and get a condo?
The problem is what to do with the losers who can't adapt to new economic and social realities. Mocking them probably isn't a great solution, seeing as they still have the vote, and have shown themselves willing and able to throw a spanner in the works just to destroy the machine of progress.

All of what you say presupposes that liberal = Democrat and Republican = conservative. This is no longer true
