I wonder if the Oilers leaked McDavids demand of 13.25 million so that he would be publicly ostracized and perhaps come down a bit?
Because no confirmation so far

No confirmation because they are working on details, like lockout-proofing it.
Think about what you said: you're suggesting that the Oilers would purposely set up their golden boy to be publicly ostracized. Seriously, you throw out some questionable ####.

If they did so, them they are stupider than everyone imagined. As dumb as they are I would have to think that even Oilers management must understand that public perception is meaningless with regards to NHL contracts.
It has been widely reported that the contract would not be finalized until mid-week, that the AAV is set, and that they are only presently working through details.
Besides, I am fairly sure the leak came from McDavid's side.

Business is business. Somebody leaked it. It's not uncommon to like a player and still criticize them in arbitration. I don't think it's malicious in the slightest to leak a figure to the media and let McDavid hear about how "he's greedy" or "not wanting to win" from the media and fans in order to see if he takes a friendlier salary. It's not like it's the Oilers management saying these things to his face and salary negotiations always involve some strategy.
Either way, people will have their opinions. Why not use that as leverage? ####, I'd do it.

Because it would never work, and would more likely cause a long term rift with the player. That is why you don't use this as "leverage"; because there is none.

Rift? Firstly, teams leak stuff to the media for all sorts back-scratching reasons. They can't help what the media and public say and feel about something.
Secondly, you can't build a roster and implement a blank-cheque policy. What can they do? Hard ball him? No, so why not try anpther harmless strategy?

There is nothing they can do, and yes, the Oilers are in a position where they basically need to just hand McDavid a blank cheque, which is basically what they have done.
I will repeat here that even if the Oilers are the source of the leak, it was NEVER for the intention that it might make McDavid rethink his value. That is ridiculous, panicky Oilers-fan logic that has them convinced the final cap hit will come in around $11.0 m. It isn't happening. It was never going to happen.

Except I'm not an Oilers fan or suggesting or wanting McDavid to go down in salary.
What, I theorize a reason for no confirmation in signing thus far and now I'm an Oilers fan? Don't be so pety because I don't agree with you. Act like an adult.

I honestly have no idea what the word-salad in your last three sentences means. But going from the appearance of the word "theorize" I will counter with this: we already know why there has been no "confirmation" of the reported cap hit on McDavid's upcoming contract. Why do we need to invent theories when we know that 1) his contract will be worth $106 m for eight years, and that 2) the reason it has not yet been signed is because they are working out complicated details for lockout-proofing?

I don't follow the Oilers. I don't read their daily news feed and had no idea there is proof as to why there's no confirmation. Perhaps you can share said proof then?
I, unlike most people in this thread, don't obsess over the Oilers. That might have been my first ever post in this thread

When everyone in the media is talking about the McDavid numbers as if they're a done deal, it's safe to assume they're a done deal. No one is suggesting anything different, not even the biggest Oiler Kool-Aid drinkers.

Yeah, no one seems to be saying things like "sounds like it might be in the $106M range", everyone is saying "$106M, or 8 x $13.25M"
Sounds pretty definitive.
Unlike NY yesterday, where the Shattenkirk number came out and then the Rangers shot it down as untrue pretty quickly.

I would think that if a leak came out from the Oilers or a suspected leak with that blatant of a purpose that Orr would completely lose his stuff, and he would suddenly be pushing for a 5 year max dollar deal.
Again Orr and McDavid don't give a crap about the court of public opinion, fans being mad about his payday would have no effect on him.
But the Oilers leaking details that would piss them off.

While the oilers are truly no good, the caps bought an extra 3 (I think) years of UFA, so it actually wouldn't surprise me if he got around the same number.
