Wow. 40 million bucks a year. More than half the NHL salary cap.
Somehow this is still considered "underpaid".

It's crazy money but not that far out of whack compared to the NHL. Half as many players per team, starters play the majority of the game. If Crosby or McDavid played 40 min a night, there were only 5 F, 3D and 1G, and the salary cap was the same they'd probably be in that ballpark.

The Flames have stepped up to the plate and now will contend with the Oilers for Pacific Division supremacy for years to come. It will be just like the 80s. The Battle of Alberta is just beginning.

LeBron tweeted why he was underpaid. Warriors owner bought the team for $450 million 7 years ago. It is now worth 2.6 billion. The main reason is Steph Curry. He literally made a team grow it's worth by $2 billion. So yes $40 million a year is underpaid.

Marleau and Jagr even at their respective "advanced" ages. Grigorenko is a personal favorite. After that it's a crap shoot. But if the Flames nab any of those three I think we're looking real good.
EDIT: and Kovalchuk. Holy cow how did we forget him. Serious no brainer if he would come.

You missed Dadonov and Thorton. Thorton with SJ at 6.5 mil, 1 year. Dadonov signed with Florida, I think it was 4 million, not sure though.

Could you squash all the UFA's that have signed at the bottom of each of the lists so that way the unsigned guys are at the top of each group, that way it makes it easier to see. Thanks.

Colorado had the most points in the West that year.
Iggy stated that when he signed with them, wanting to go to a team on the rise.

Technically the 2nd most in the west but your point still stands. After the 2013-14 season the Avs were considered a top up and coming team that would challenge for the cup for years. At the time it was a good decision by Iginla balancing money with a chance to win.
Unfortunately for him and the Avs, the team massively crashed and burned due to Varlamov wearing down and regressing, the defence being exposed, losing their great centre depth, and their youth failing to develop.

I hate to go back to this OT stuff, but the owners don't owe Steph Curry any profit sharing here. He is more than well compensated for his services, one of the highest paid athletes in any sport now.
However, the owners are the ones that took the risk on the investment, and as such, they deserve the returns on that investment if it works out. Part of making that investment work out is finding personnel to make the business thrive. They found a guy in Curry and employed him, and then they paid him what he was worth (probably more) as compensation for his services to their investment.
This ain't communism here folks. This is how capitalism works, and those with the capital and are willing to take risks should reap the rewards.
Now it's up to Curry to turn his new found capital into a new investment that can pay off as well as the Warriors owners' investment did. That's how he can get even more rich if he so chooses.

It aint exactly capitalism either. Curry didn't have a choice to play with the Warriors or not if he wanted to be in the NBA (they drafted him). And at no point was Curry being paid more than he was worth. Also, salary caps are not capitalism, without them Curry would be making much more money. So you are correct about the owner deserving the rewards, but in a true capitalist market Steph Curry's salary wouldn't be limited by salary caps and maximum salaries. He would be able to go out and say I turned this 450 million dollar business into a 2.6 billion dollar business and teams would definitely pay more than 40 million a year for that. So no, this is not how capitalism works. It's how the sports world works and it's really the only industry in the world that works this way. It benefits the owners at the detriment to the players. Caps were put in place to save the owners from screwing themselves.

These athletes are doing ok. Steph Curry will make more than 40x that of an Orthopaedic surgeon.
The owners may be making a boatload but paying people who can play sports really well, salaries that completely dwarf the most crucial professions in our society, seems like it perpetuates the problem
