He's going to get overpaid by someone. Just glad it's not the Flames.

Guy can't mull his options for a few minutes and put you out for the day?
Opt 1. Stay with my pals Jumbo Joe and Burns, keep my family situated, make decent money, but potentially miss the playoffs.
Opt 2. Leave my pals, uproot my family, take less money, learn a new system, but play on a Stanley Cup winning team, the Calgary Flames.
Tough choice

The Flames aren't even in the picture imo. I think its Dallas vs San Jose. Leafs pushed hard but I doubt he wants to go that far away from the west coast.

It's not like SJ is some also run team and Calgary is the SC favorite.
SJ did have more points than Calgary last year. And while Calgary has certainly improved, there is little certainty there.
The best team in hockey likely doesn't have much more than a 12-15% chance to win the cup going into the season.
I would thank that he doesn't see the Flames as any better than the Sharks at this stage.

Does anyone really think the Flames are in serious talks still with Marleau? Given their cap situation there is no way they can even afford $4MM at this point, and Marleau sure isn't settling for less. This ship has sailed!

I don't believe we were ever really serious about Marleau. Sharp, yes. But it was a given that he would be back with the hawks if they wanted him.

It's just such a lame career to spend all of it with SJ.
Just like with Iggy, eventually it's time to go explore other opportunities and try to get that chance to drink from the cup before you're done. It's his last couple years in the NHL, now's the time to do it. Maybe Marleau isn't an all in to win type of guy. Would rather stay in his comfort zone. Sucks to see with a great player like him.

I think Flames really wanted either Sharp or Williams. Veteran right shot with Cup winning experience and the ability to still chip in 20 goals or so on a short term deal.
Didn't work out.
Nothing really left out there, might as well let the kids compete I guess.
Wouldn't be shocked though if Treliving surprises us somehow. It's pretty clear the Flames are going hard for a Cup in the next 3 seasons before the next (probable) lock out, while their D and young forward group are still in their primes and under contract.

I'm glad BT has stayed out of the bidding for any aging player. Sharp wanted to play with his buddies again and Williams was too expensive.
I love Iggy, but I don't think the Flames need him and it promotes competition with the younger players and more growth from our young core.

Apparently, this afternoon he posted something on Instagram which ended with him saying he's "going back home".

Alex Radulov just Instagram storied a video of himself on a plane. Wait until the end, he says "going back home". Whatever that means.

Going back to Russia after teams haven't been falling over themselves to give him a ridiculous contract?

Yep. Ask Iginla how easy it is to pick the Cup winner in the offseason. Given the stage of his career, Sharks offer a similar chance vs. other teams. Although a little disappointing for them they are paying so much for one year of Thornton and perhaps could have upgraded somewhere.

Is there anyone left out there that can help the Flames up front? I suspect we are standing pat or looking for a trade.

Apparently he's just been on vacation the last little while and he's on his way back to his current home. Presumably in Montreal.

I don't think that using someone who thought that the avalanche were the best cup contenders to sign with is a good example

Just for comparison's sake, Steph Curry (who isn't even a free agent) has signed a 5-year/201$ million contract with Golden State.
Wow. 40 million bucks a year. More than half the NHL salary cap.
Somehow this is still considered "underpaid".
