Habs sign Karl Alzner (5 years, $4.625 mil AAV)
Aaron Ward @NHL_AaronWard
Unofficially hearing Alzner and Montreal Canadiens have agreed on a 5 year deal at roughly $4.5M per. #TSN

They needed to sign a Dman. I wonder what's going to happen with 38 yr old Markov?

Stone at 3.5 is a better deal.

The panel on NHL radio yesterday thought Alzner would get between 5-6 million. 4.5 is not bad

Why the "yikes"? What's a UFA like Alzner worth in your world?

Good deal for the Habs. They needed to replace some defenders long term. It was still rough on their depth to lose Sergachev, Beaulieu, and Emelin over the course of a week.

Good deal for the Habs, I thought he would get $5.5 million-$6million.
Markov will sit on sidelines until his asking price comes down or Washington is idiotic enough to give him what he wants.

From my understanding, fancy stats are not kind to Alzner but he played top 4 on a President's Trophy winner, so he can't be that bad right?
I'm not too familiar with the player TBH

That is great number. Way better deal than when we signed wide-dog from Washington for 5.5.

Alzner is gonna be the Habs more expensive Michael Stone. They are almost the same player.

I Would say its market value for a free agent. Certainly an improvement on Emelin for less money.

$4.5M isn't bad as a UFA signing, but 5 years is a lot of term
I like Stone's contract a lot more

Matt Bartkowski played top 4 on a president's trophy winner in 2014.
Dan Girardi played top 4 on a President's Trophy winner in 2015.
Just sayin'.

Bartkowski & Girardi can only wish they are as good as Alzner is at this point, and that says a lot because Alzner ain't great, but he is way better than Bartkowski (garbage) & Girardi (quite a bit past his best).

It's less than I expected and still more than he should get. Bad signing. Bergevin is terrible. Habs fans must be pulling their hair out.
