Hopefully the FanAttic at the Dome opens later today to sell heat pressed Jagr jerseys.

Always subject to change, but indications are Jaromir Jagr very likely won't be back in Florida. Great hands, but need more speed in lineup.
|
Jagr looked great this year. I don't recall if I've seen him faster in the past 10 years than this year (I could have just imagined). He's not Jason Allison, that's for sure. So I'm shocked Florida would pass on him because of speed, because speed hasn't been an issue for him this year.

I don't know if they are necessarily passing on him for speed.
Its been reported that Tallon has been ordered to cut payroll (which he denies but given his recent moves, sounds like it is true). He may not be able to fit Jagr into their budget.

Yet he wants to stay out east? ...
This is why I can't believe all these speculative/hunch tweets until pen is on paper and the player is signed.

Yeah, makes sense.
On that note, even though it's next to impossible for him to sign up north, I'd think Jagr would be great on any team given his ability to hold onto the puck.
For this years FA period, I'd love to see Marleau join the Flames. Second would be Williams. Sharp I'm a bit meh on given too many days off.

Jagr still had more 5 on 5 points last year (33) than Chiasson (20) and Brouwer (12) combined.
He'd be a boon to the development of Monahan, Bennett, Jankowski, Tkachuk.

Aaron Ward
Based on his history with the Hurricanes, Justin Williams seems likely to return to Carolina. #TSN

What? No, that's not true. He definitely is slow now. He makes up for it with positioning and hockey sense, but he's only effective on a team that runs a deep cycle game. Almost nothing was scored off the rush last year. Has great hands still and excellent vision, but if the team is looking to play a speed game, Jagr is not a good fit.

I'd want Jagr on the team for the coolness factor and totally selfish and non rational (in a hockey sense) reasons even if he was totally useless on the ice.
But then the fact that he may still help the team on the ice (he will) and off then ice with development (he probably will as noted above), the fact that he is available, Treliving doing the unexpected, plus Treliving already having addressed some holes before the ufa period open so that this wouldn't be some desperate signing, has me unashamedly giddy that it could happen in the next couple hours. Setting myself up for disappointment, sure, but it would unbelievable to have him and his 43 year old locks on the team in October (or at the trade deadline!).
Make him parade marshall for the Stampede next week and the comments from Burke and Conroy about the acquisition would be gold.

I find it interesting that Jumbo Joe has not re-signed in San Jose before July 1. Bit of a re-tool for the Sharks ahead of a stacked draft?

San Jose are the poster boys for insanity if they bring back both Joe and patty. It was a good 20 years but time to let go. And we thought the flames were bad with clinging to iggy..
