I'm thinking this ends up coming in significantly lower than these rumours. I'd bet that around that 11 mil a season rumour ends up being closer to correct than the 13+ one.
I hope I'm wrong.

Well I don't really lend a lot of credibility to any source that's entwined with covering the Oilers. They're mostly shills. I wouldn't put it past them to push a huge contract story out there so Chiarelli looks like a genius when he signs him to "only" a 11 mil cap hit.
Who are the other truly credible sources that aren't just putting out what Rishaug said?

What $11 m rumour? The only reports with numbers attached have started with "13."
I will be shocked if McDavid signs s contract for less than that.

I don't know who reported it first, but I did see Sportsnet discussing it, led by Elliott Friedman. He was saying that they were just working out details such as lockout proofing it, etc.
The way they were talking, it sounded pretty close to being done.
I agree with the sentiment that the number may have been a bit of under-selling, but I can't imagine that the actual number is going to come in something like $16M less, as a couple of you are suggesting. A couple million less? Sure, maybe. But not $16M.

Lets hope, but Friedman discussing it is probably just discussing what Rishaug said. Did he state that he had heard on his own that these are what the numbers are?

The only way its 11 million dollars a year is if its 5 years.
No player is going to leave 24 million dollars on the table especially McDavid if he signs a 11x8.
Not a chance. That theory came from some attention starved schlub on HF who probably has money issues and has a young girl trapped in a well with beauty products.
