I like the moves. No real price paid and no real risk here, all upside.
I like Lack, I will pull for him to so well here. He's a great guy and teammate. I remember him walking around naked in the dressing room, didn't give two ####s who was there, reporters, wives, kids, not a care in the world.
I like adding Lack because he's got NHL experience but isn't such a lock that it rules out younger guys competing for a NHL spot. Best of both worlds
Not to mention only for an additional year which gives a lot of flexibility to start seriously considering moving one of our own prospects into the backup role then. Low caphit (lower than a UFA backup signing I'd argue) also helps in avoiding needing to consider things like buying out Bouma etc since there's more than enough cap space for the rest of housekeeping.
Yeah no. It's Lack's spot. Rittich hacked half of a season in the AHL. Flames are building up to make a run you don't do that with an AHL goalie as your backup.

I'm not a believer in more proven = better. That's the same mentality had us running Grossmann in the lineup on opening night.
Rittich was great in the AHL and isn't a kid anymore. If he outplays Lack in camp then he deserves the spot.

Wotherspoon and Brent Kulak must be wondering what the heck do we have to do to get into the NHL lineup full-time? Both of them have been on the system for a few years now.
Anyways I guess I won't be making some judgement until the middle of the season. I am not complaining on what we gave up, just want to see the young guys given a chance. Keenan Kanzig I like but there are a lot of young defensemen in the system that passed him on a depth chart. Good luck to him and I hope Hurricanes gives a chance to make the team this season.
