That would blow my mind.
He is an awesome fit for that price.

I completely expected a 2 x $2.25-$2.5 deal to get him back. This is s steal and unreal hometown discount for what he brings to the table for this team.

I hope they don't. I'd rather they just ride it out. Bouma has something to prove and it's not like they are up against the cap.

Ride out both of those contracts like we did Wideman and Smid. Already have Ryamond still on the books

can u crunch your numbers again.. run them by your cap accountant?
capfriendly's buyout calculator says the savings with be 1.5 this year then only an addition of .760 next year

agreed... that's my recollection as well... certainly the majority. How could anyone be upset with a veteran, stanley cup winner at sub 1 Million on a one year contract?
especially considering we plucked him out from under the Oilers...

Great deal for the Flames, and offers the Flames a lot of flexibility and versatility.
I really like him with Monahan. Provides a more skilled guy to play with Bennett as well.
Best part? I expect the Flames to make the playoffs, and I thought Versteeg excelled last playoffs.

Nice to see Versteeg wasn't just paying lip service when he said he wanted to be back.
Made sure he could be signed by the Flames without much hesitation at this price.

For a guy who was reportedly being pursued by as many ad a dozen teams, Versteeg re-signing in Calgary for a 1-year deal at a more than reasonable price speaks to how desirable the Flames have become.
People love to say that players likely have the Flames on a list of teams / cities they'd never play for (including this forum) but this hopefully shuts people up.
At that price, I almost wish they signed him for 2 years.

He's comparing the savings of sending him to the AHL versus the savings of buying him out. You pay like $500k more this year if you just bury him, yes, but it's only for 1 season.
As a whole you actually save more cap space by just burying him because of that extra year.

I second this. You have to be hesitant throwing around term, especially with his injury history. But at under $2M it would be nice to see a second year. If he performs like he did last season then someone will give him $2.5+ next July. I imagine he would have wanted more money for an extra year, though. This almost feels like a beefier "show me" deal like he got last year. Overall, I'm happy with this.

Felt like Bouma was a good penalty killer last year and one of more physical players. makes no sense to buy him out, might as well play him on the 4th line and let him kill penalties and block shots. im taking the long odds we actually re-sign bouma for 1 mil next summer

Hopefully no buyouts.
Ideally you don't ever use the buyout but you shouldn't do every year because they compound. Don't forget the Flames still owe another million on Raymond.

Great contract.
This is one of the best off-seasons I can remember for the Flames. Tre has proven himself to be such an awesome GM.

Treliving trolling Calgary fans.
Versteeg was the free agent who called him.

Agreed. Worst case, I'm not against burying him like they did Bollig.
