[QUOTE=FlamesAddiction;6308185]You have to consider that whomever McDavid plays with will likely be more productive as a result. Just like Gaudreau and Monahan help each other. McDavid might get between 100-125 points himself per season in the next few seasons, but he will probably add another 50-75 vicariously through his teammates.
That goes for any high end player...13.5M you better be flirting with 120+ points. Pressure is on, I think teams will really be trying to shut down McDavid like in the playoffs...especially as their depth dwindles

So for this contract to really bomb out we need to encourage the American's to make Trump a two term president.

other GM's have to see where the Oilers breaking point is cap figure wise.
9 million bucks to Drai will pretty much cripple the Oilers cap wise.

This is the thing, I wouldnt use the term 'burden' but maybe 'less effective?'
McDavid was 4th in the NHL in Ice-Time per game at 21:07 per game.

Getzlaf is right behind him so maybe its sustainable, but its something to think about.

It'd be hilarious if they lost Draisaitl or entered cap hell. I'd laugh in both cases.

Teams should definitely offer sheet Draisaitl, because Chiarelli already said he'll match any offer sheet... so essentially, there's no risk that the other team will have to sign him or give-up draft picks. It's just a matter of screwing up the Oiler's salary cap structure.
Assuming Chiarelli was telling the truth about matching offer sheets...

I get that Draisaitl is a wonderful prospect but he's definitely not worth close to $10M at this point. The team that signs him to that offer sheet will be much worse off!

If teams don't happen to offer sheet him, Flames should send one to Leon just to force them to match and ensure cap hell.

Man would it be great to see the Oil have to pony up to keep Draisaitl after backing up the truck to keep McLotto.
I like Draisaitl as a player but think he's been boosted by playing with McDavid. With what they pay those two, keeping them together on a line will have their other 3 lines suffer, and splitting them up will see Draisaitl struggle to keep pace without McDavid.
Combine that with the cap crunch that puts them in and their inability to draft and make good decisions, and they will be a one-trick pony for years to come.

I'll be somewhat irked if Treliving doesn't offer sheet Draisatl.
Edit: Wait. Never mind. We don't have the picks to do it.

"Very odd post". Passive aggressive much? Disappointed too that Irish Spring didn't have something better to add. Usually he is the resident critic of people's posting styles.
My point is that after two years, McDavid is being debated as to whether he's currently better than the reigning player of his generation so I guess it's just a matter of time barring something unforeseen. Do the Pens win the Stanley Cup last year with McDavid instead of Crosby? I wouldn't bet against it but the veteran Crosby is clearly still a better playoff performer.
What is your take on the subject?

I would imagine that there is absolutely no sympathy for the Oilers among the other management groups. The way they tanked, and continued to tank, and then tanked some more, until McDavid fell in their laps - despite the league having to change the rules to avoid it - has no doubt left a bitter taste around the league.
And of course there is also the history of the Oilers issuing offer sheets themselves.
So I have little doubt that there would be at least a few teams that would, given the opportunity, not mind sticking it to the Oilers a little bit.

I don't believe the Flames have the requisite picks to be able to tender an offer sheet.

Dreaming of a offer sheet is fun as a flames fan, but not sure if teams out there would want to pony up 9M bucks for Draisaitl just yet.
