Don't know why Winnipeg wouldn't trade for Hamonic. Perfect fit for both as much as I'd like him in Calgary.

Maybe we can get a little bit of 'Chicago luck' and prybl (now that he's heathy) will be our magical, sought after, out of nowhere first line RW.

How did you compute that? I'd like to see your calculations please. If Ferland was playing with Crosby you don't think PIT would've won the cup? Seems a bit presumptuous. And Ferland is still a young developing player, we probably have not seen the best of him yet. Same goes for Bennett. Same goes for Tkachuk. Monahan and Gaudreau may not have peaked yet either. Hamilton probably has some room to improve too.

And if winger is an issue heading into the trade deadline and Treliving feels we're ready to contend then you go grab the best winger available at the deadline. Some years there is a Hossa available, or a Gaborik. And if they are UFAs you aren't stuck with them longterm. IMO grabbing an overpaid sniper now could have bad cap implications longterm.

Right now getting a winger is not a huge issue. Getting a 4th and 5th defensemen is a much, much bigger issue.

Not going to happen. I would bank on Porier magically becoming that guy over Pribyl

This is a farcical exaggeration. The Penguins managed to win the Stanley Cup last year with Conor Sheary getting the lion's share of time on Crosby's wing in the playoffs. Ferland on the top line is probably not ideal, but so much depends on the balance of the rest of the roster. After his second full NHL season it is probably premature to draw conclusions on exactly what sort of player Ferland is.

You can move up Tkachuk but I don't know if he's a great fit for that line as he's not really a burner and neither is Monahan making the line a bit too plodding. Team really needs a scoring threat on the other side of Monahan to open up space for Gaudreau as I don't know if he's going to get back to where he was two seasons ago as long as teams can ignore the other winger on that line.
Gaudreau was scoring at a point/game clip with Ferland on the top line in the last six weeks of the regular season. The top line faltered in the playoffs, but again, I think it is still early to be drawing conclusions about each of these players' respective ceilings.

Yeah they seem high on Pribyl. During Pascal's interview his voice went up an octave and his ears perked up when Leslie asked him about Pribyl. Trelivings brought him up a few times without provocation as well

I don't know if the numbers support that - since Ferland was put on the top line, Gaudreau scored 26 points in 23 games - better production than what he got the year before.

Almost every one of those guys is 6' 200lbs. That's hardly tiny as you suggest....they'll be just fine.

Ari on Flames Nation has a new piece on Hamonic which raises several red flags.

I am not surprised. Without seeing it my impression is that Ari has a tendency to view hockey within a pure statistical bubble.

one of the arguments in that piece is "don't trade for him because his 5v5 CF is terrible - only Ristolainens and Stones numbers were worse!"

And that's the problem I still have with parts of the advanced stats community - those numbers are not the holy grail and don't tell the whole story, but only a small part of the picture. I remember bloggers also blasting the Stone trade because of his so, so terrible advanced stats.

Lindholm is 6'1'', but the other guys are 5'11'' at best-maybe not "tiny", but certainly not big either...

It would be easier to get a read on Pribyl if he could stay healthy.

Yep. And you can never view a player in a complete vacuum. Someone's shot generation numbers will be influenced by the players they are on the ice with. Same goes for their shot suppression numbers. So on a team that had a bad year their shot generation and suppression numbers will go down. Goalies on a bad team will have their GAA and SV% affected by the fact their defense allows higher quality chances.

The stats only tell part of the story. A lot of stat watchers make the mistake of assuming a player with certain linemates will always perform that same way if they change teams, change linemates, etc. That is a pretty huge mistake to make. You can never get numbers that are not influenced and affected by the team they are on and the people they play with.

Brodie-Hamonic could be one of the best shutdown pairings in the entire league regardless of how bad his stats were last year.

just because the Flames suck at picking 20-30 most of the time (sans Backlund) doesn't mean that is appropriate value

McKenzie on NHL radio said Snows asking price is 2 firsts. Mentioned Flames as one of the teams talking to Islanders about him.
