Not really sold on Hamonic, I'd rather just pick a player at 16...

Id rather Stone/Demers in #4 spot + a Suzuki/Vesalainen/Andersson in the system over Hamonic in #4 spot by a large margin. I think Hamonic is being highly over rated in this thread right now.

This is literally almost impossible.

That centre depth isn't terrible when you break it down based on their stats. Stajan, Blake, Bozak, and Grabovski each bested 50 points multiple times with the Leafs, while Primeau was a typical old 4C.
It wasn't the Leafs' centre depth that made them bad, it was their defense.

Hamonic had an awful season last year. Just go read the Isle boards on HF, they do not hold a high opinion of him. He was a -21, #### off with this 2 first round picks.

Seems expensive given: - Stone, Alzner, Kulikov, Trouba, Girardi are all available as UFAs
- Vegas has as many as 4 excess defensemen
- Anahiem has one excess defenseman
- Wild has one excess defenseman

The Flames should absolutely make the pick at #16. Sign either Stone/Franson and keep the picks/players. Hamonic is not enough of an upgrade on those two guys to warrant sending off what has been rumored. If the AAV is a bit higher, so be it.
Am I the only one that thinks all the fuss may be over the wrong Isles defender? De Haan would be a much better fit and in my opinion be worth much more than Hamonic to Flames.

Yeah sometimes players have bad years when dealing with injuries. The Isles sucked overall. Doesn't mean Hamonic is doomed to suck for the rest of his career does it?

Neither of these teams finished the season with a top-two draft pick. Mind you, in the light of the new draft-lottery rules, this does change things a fair bit.

The whole "trust the process" moniker would be thrown out the window if we trade for Hamonic. Just don't do it. Let's keep the first rounder and continue to build prospect depth.

That's true but I'm not very high on the player to begin with and after a #### season I would stay away. Especially when there are others available that won't cost a first. A first rounder and a prospect is too much imo.

I view it as continuing to build through the draft and not making trades that eliminate having any picks in the first 3 rounds. Hamonic is a move to get better next season but the flames need a top line RW which I believe will only come through the draft. I don't really want to see this team chasing overpriced free agents and college free agents like Spencer Foo for the next 5-10 years and hoping they will turn into a top line RW.

Unless the process is:
-Build young core through draft to make a playoff caliber team... Check
-Assemble good group of prospects at every position... Debatable I suppose, but I think this is a Check
-Add missing pieces through trade to get to next level... Almost there
-Once a contender, selloff periphery players for picks to maintain contender status... Not there yet
We are clearly in the third stage of this and a couple picks going doesn't bother me much.

We really don't need a RW nearly as badly as some of you think

I agree, people need to realize that the window for the Flames is opening up and I would rather make some trades to solidify the roster than wait on the prospect we select at 16. Odds are that this player won't play for another 3-4 years if ever at all.

Gaudreau-Monahan-???
Tkachuk-Bennett-Ferland
Jankowski-Backlund-Frolik
I agree that we can do without but it would be nice to have a James Neal type of player there.
Brouwer, Stajan, and Bouma make ~$10 mil... it would be a lot easier if they weren't around and I don't mind Stajan.

The 4th period is reporting the Canes are dangling Hanifin for a top line player?
Obligatory Backlund or Bennett for Hanifin?
