Snow will not get two 1sts. The fact that Calgary is the only West team mentioned with a lot of interest plus the possibility that Snow may not need a roster player back makes me pretty confident that the Flames have a real shot here. #16 plus a prospect might do the trick ...

With the Flames' luck, they mighty run into injury problems and not make the playoffs...don't like the idea of trading away a first round pick without knowing where it will be. Remember the Leafs' trade for Kessel?

If he is stuck on 2 1st overall picks, I would make the 2018 conditional on playoffs or something. Sure it is a higher pick then for Snow, but protects the Flames and allows the Isles to come away with their asking price

How much do you remember about that Maple Leafs team? Their centre depth consisted of Matt Stajan—before he was traded to Calgary, Tyler Bozak, Mikhail Grabovsky, Jason Blake, and Wayne Primeau.
This is literally almost impossible.

Can the flames do this? Their 2nd next year is tied to Smith If they make the playoffs Arizona gets the 2nd. Can they trade the 2nd in 2018to become a first if they make the playoffs or because the 2nd is already in play they can't attach it to another deal?

Kind of agree, I wouldn't say that I'm "not afraid at all" of dealing our '17 pick, but '18 should be relatively untouchable

Tampa ran into loads of injury problem and missed the playoffs despite being a cup contender.
Panthers had key injuries early which derailed the season and never found their way back (especially given the amount of chaos behind the bench).
It's never impossible to miss the playoffs no matter how good you are or think you will be.
