According to Dreger this morning...

"All Canadian teams with exception of Ottawa are on Methot's no trade list and Ottawa can't get him back until after Jan 1...if interested."

Cross him off the list.

I hope if you we trade our 1st, they do it right before we're slated to pick. It'll be pretty anti-climactic watching the first round without a pick (like the Hamilton trade draft year)

I'm actually kind of glad we are out on Methot, he's good no doubt but I feel he'd slow down too fast and not fit for long on the Flames. I agree they need an upgrade in the #4 spot but I think it should be a Hybrid kind of guy and IMO Hamonic fits the bill, he's good defensive but can still play a well rounded game (from what I've seen).

IMO the organization's greatest need is a skilled RW that can play on the top line. I would sign Stone but would be looking for a skilled RW before another defenseman like Hamonic.

It's unlikely, but he could still waive

not having a 1st was a bummer, but I remember I was still buzzing because of the Hamilton trade. To me that (and the aftermath including the Bruins/Oilers fans meltdown) was more fun than having three 1sts like in 2013.

Glad it is a no on Methot. Flames gave up a a 2nd and a prospect for a 35 year old less than a week ago. I wouldn't want them spending more futures on a 32 year old.

They should focus on the younger guys like Hamonic or Dumba

I think it was Friedman who reported it, but teams called about Theodore after the expansion draft and Vegas told them no. Looks like they plan to keep him.

it makes sense for LV to keep him, he has potential to turn into a top guy and someone they can build the back end around. They have to keep some good players and he fits the bill for skill and age for a new team.

Friedman on 960 says other teams in on Hamonic: Stars, Leafs, Avs.

Says that the 2 1st round picks asking price might benefit Flames, because the other teams are in no position to offer their 1sts.

Doesn't think they will get the 2 1sts and doesn't think Calgary wants to give up 2 1sts

Friedman says Flames have probably checked on Demers but would prefer Hamonic

Doesn't think Flames will look at Alzner.

Here is a quote I dug up for those that keep wanting/trying to shoe horn another LHD into the Flames top 4.

Quote:
Flames head coach Glen Gulutzan mixed up his defence duos ahead of Tuesday's road date in Minnesota, pairing D Mark Giordano with D Dougie Hamilton and putting D TJ Brodie with D Dennis Wideman. "For me, it's about balance," Gulutzan explained. "Gio and Brodes can handle minutes but the reality is you can't get the matchups every night that you want. We need balance from all the pairs."Gulutzan, who reunited D Deryk Engelland and D Brett Kulak on the third tandem, is a fan of left/right-shot pairs. "I think it helps you spread the ice out," he said. "It helps you play quicker and spreads the ice out in the offensive zone and through the neutral zone"
I guess it's not impossible that Tre would acquire a top 4 lefty, but I wouldn't bet on it myself.

Two firsts? No thanks from me. Damn you Jim Benning for setting a ridiculous price for number 4 d men.

What if the Flames acquire Hamonic and sign Stone for cheap (~2.5MM)

Giordano-Hamilton
Brodie-Stone
Hamonic-Andersson

I can live with that.

I think if the Flames acquire Hamonic, it would probably take 16th+Klimchuk+Bouma (cap purposes and a player who isnt completely useless)

Hamonic isn't going to be 5/6

Also Friedman noted this morning that the ask is two 1sts because NYI don't want to take salary back. I assume he means substantial salary but still, gives you an idea what they are after

You don't spend the assets required for Hamonic who is a 18 - 22 minute guy and put him on the 3rd pairing. He would play with Brodie and Stone would slide down as that is where he should be.

It's funny how much media perception can drive value in the NHL- I think actually prefer Demers or Stone even though Hamonic is the one the media is in love with.

Even if Hamonic was what the media thinks he is (he's not) I don't think we should be paying a premium for our #4 d-man - we have a good top 3 already just need a strong supporting cast and not another star.

Over the last two seasons:

Demers
GP: 143
G:16
A:35
P:51
+/-: +2
TOI: 20:09
Hits/GP: 1.3
Bks/GP: 1.1
Corsi: 51.42%
5v5 Zone Start: 49.75%

Hamonic
GP: 121
G:8
A:27
P:35
+/-: -26
TOI: 22:27
Hits/GP: 1.7
Bks/GP: 2.0
Corsi: 48.08%
5v5 Zone Start:47.92%

Stone
GP: 139
G:9
A:42
P:51
+/-: -10
TOI: 21:14
Hits/GP: 1.9
Bks/GP: 2.1
Corsi: 45.50%
5v5 Zone Start: 44.42%

Somebody explain to me why we should be paying a premium for Hamonic, versus trying to just get Demers or re-sign Stone. Hamonics stats are underwhelming and it's not like the Islanders are horrible. Really he is just a more expensive, harder to acquire, and less productive Michael Stone.

I'd also prefer Demers

The lefty-righty thing is absurd just put Brodie back on the right side where he's better

Yes, provided Demers is a more reasonable price, I would rather him.
