For all the flack Eberle gets, he has been a top 20 scoring Right Winger going back for 5 years. He might not be worth 6 million, but outside of the playoffs, he has offered some scoring. Between Strome and some internal improvement from the guys they have...I think the Oilers look to break even in terms of goals in vs goals out. Not bad, but it's treading water.

We all think the Flames young players will continue on an upward trend but not the Oilers? Strome is only 23. I think there's a good chance he's close to 50 points. I think there's a good chance Puljujarvi puts up 40+ points. I don't think RNH or Lucic had optimal years. I really don't think offense is a concern for the Oilers. Salary cap issues after next year are much bigger. They were going to lose Eberle anyway. Strome is somewhat underwhelming but a decent replacement who still has time to develop and hit his ceiling.

As a Flames fan, I really don't have that strong a reaction either way to this trade or Russell re-signing. You would think the Oilers just swallowed a massive poison pill. They haven't.

What a steal by the Islanders! Garth Snow love Peter Chiarelli.

Eberle relative fenwick and shooting % by season:
2010-11: +4.2 / 11.4
2011-12: +0.3 / 18.9 (Eberle shoots 18.9%: Next superstar! 90-point potential!)
2012-13: +9.2 / 12.0
2013-14: +1.1 / 14.0
2014-15: +2.5 / 13.1
2015-16: +4.3 / 14.5
2016-17: +4.3 / 9.6 (Eberle shoots 9.6%: Dressing room cancer! No dedication!)

The deal gets even better if the Oilers overpay for Russell with the found cap space.

So that graph shows that Eberle takes a high volume of shots in front of the net and from the left point. I guess what you can glean from that is that Eberle takes more shots than the average Oiler and often plays the left point on the power play.

I would love this to blow up in the Oilers' faces. I think both teams were just ready to move on from these players.

I think this is a fine trade for both sides. Both players names are bigger than their value. I see this as a shuffling of the chairs moves. Oilers get a 24 year old former top 5 pick that has had flashes during his career. Can play center or wing which gives the Oilers flexibility with Draisaitl playing with Connor or not. The Islanders get a more proven goal scorer and point producer

Chiarelli thought he was trading for the more talented Strome, which is Dylan.

Now I can go back cheering Jordan Eberle again.

It is funny how Flames homers believe McDavid and Draisatl had career years whereas Gaudreau, Monahan and Bennett will do nothing but improve their numbers. Seems both teams are banking on continued improvement from their young players.

There is only so much an individual player can score. I don't expect McDavid to improve much on his offensive totals from last year because that is already a stratospheric mark. Since 2005–06 17 players have scored 100 points in a single season. Four players have done it more than once. It has happened only five times since 2010.

on NHL network radio last night they briefly speculated he could hit 200 points in a season at some point
