Default Flames looking at Hamonic, Methot, among other top 4 D

Yeah, it's not going to happen - and people need to stop posting rumours from random ass twitter accounts that just make stuff up. It's just silly, and leads to unfounded speculation.

The only mention of Bennett/Hamonic comes from some random kid from Quebec on Twitter. Why would anyone give that any sort of attention?

The irony is that whereas you tend to rely heavily on advanced stats for your takes, in this instance, you said that Hamonic gets walked almost every shift. Which is why you were asked if you watch all the Islanders' games. So why is it that you're so deadset against Hamonic?

Bear in mind I'm with you on Brouwer so no need to go there.

I'd personally prefer Hamonic, but both these guys are flavours of the month. A year ago was anyone talking that highly of Methot? Playing with Karlsson helped his stock. He's 34 as well. How much time do we realistically have with him before he breaks down?

I love Backlund but he is signed for only 1 more season and he can walk as a UFA if he is not extended. He will likely command more than $5 million AAV on a new contract.

The Flames theoretically have 3 centres slotted in as their long term core with Monahan, Bennett, and Jankowski. If you extend Backlund, someone will likely move to the wing (Bennett), which isn't the worst thing.

If you can trade 1 year of Backlund for 3 years of Hamonic (with a AAV less than $4 million), you have to seriously look at that.

I think it comes down to how much faith you have in Bennett and Jankowski to be 2nd and 3rd line centres of a championship team.

Backlund is a great guy, great in the community, everything you want a Calgary Flame to be, but so was Iginla, so was Engelland. At the end of the day, it's about building the best team on the ice and not the best team in the community.

I highly doubt we are going to get either Methot or Hamonic.. I think this is just another case of BT "kicking the tires". I would personally like to see if any of our AHL defencemen can jump to the NHL roster, and sign Stone.

Would rather just resign Stone and Backlund.

McKenzie apparently said on TSN that the Isles might be asking for two 1sts lol.

The cost was supposed to be "significant" for Lazar, Smith, Hamilton, and Stone as well. Posturing.

1st + a D prospect probably gets it done - the question is whether that's a cost the Flames should pay.

An insight into trade negotiations between Snow (GS) and Treliving (BT) on 'Harmonic':

GS: Well, Brad, I'm not sure if I'll take the 16th pick straight up for our defenseman.

BT: Are you sure?

GS: I just need a little bit more value. You, see, this d-man is a natural.

BT: Ok, I think I know what I can give you.

GS: What's that?

BT: For 'Harmonic', I'll raise you a seventh on top of my original offer.

GS: Deal.

An interesting choice for the Flames might be Brayden McNabb. He's 6' 4 and 26 with one year left on his 1.7M contract. Sure he shoots left but he would fill the 5/6 roll nicely.

Judging by the Schlemko deal the ask wouldn't be high either.

McNabb is worth tons more than Schlemko IMO. I think McNabb can be a top 4 guy for VGK. I think they may want to build around a guy like McNabb, he's just entering his prime and may be ready to take more responsibility. Schlemko was a bottom pairing guy and at his age doesn't have any untapped upside. I don't think they are very comparable in value at all.

Yikes, I like Hamonic, but that is too much.

I would trade #16 and a prospect like Shinkaruk for Hamonic and #46. Then swing for the fences by picking Safin with #46.

You will take one first round pick and a prospect and you(isles) will like it.

Mehot for Brouwer/Stajan/Bouma + 2nd round pick would be awesome.

Could make a lot of sense for both teams too...Vegas is super weak up the middle and seems to be collecting draft picks.
