Plus it's come out that he may be a bit of a malcontent.
Nobody wants that for $4 million cap hit.

As far as I've heard, he's a malcontent because Detroit is going nowhere fast. Also they apparently promised him a long term deal then forced him into a bridge when it became clear that they couldn't move Howard and his contract.
I'm very disappointed that he wasn't picked up by Brad, especially if all he would have cost was a Tomas Nosek caliber prospect. Mrazek is a good goaltender and I think he will be a great one in the future.

In what way did selecting Bellemare from PHI make any sense. 32 year old 4th liner that played 3 yes 3 NHL seasons for a total of 34pts. This is just one example of the odd decisions McPhee made. This doesn't help his team now or in the future. This would be like picking Bollig from the Flames.

On the NHL Network, Tanguay predicted VGK would take Bellemare

This likely pick was leaked earlier in the day. Means nothing that Tanguay predicted it. Was already leaked out.
Basically Would you take him? He is literal nobody in the whole of the NHL.
Put it this way If Trelliving signed him as a UFA fans would be like wtf is that and why.
It was about as stupid as a warm body pick McPhee could make.

Yeah. I don't get Vegas selecting Bellemare either. He's not that good.

I would have taken the BPA and then flip to the highest bidder

So I wonder what Flames could have offered to LV for either of those goalies?

The only thing I can think of is PHI already has a deal in place with Vegas giving them assets tomorrow for Pickard and the assets were conditional on Bellemare being chosen today. Kind of an overpayment.

I missed where he got traded to COL. Vegas could have a better defense than VAN or COL, we'll see

Did the Rangers have a deal in place for LV to not take Raanta? I ask because o has always thought that one of Fast or Lindberg would go in the draft over Raanta. I think the Knights did well to grab Lindberg. Good young keeper forward.

Not sure how you can be so certain. They have like 10 or more defencemen better than the majority of COL's blue line. Even after trading 4-6 I still think they won't be the worst defense in the league

I think that is debatable...Colorado will get lit up too but what does that have to do with going to Vegas over Calgary?
MAF is doomed

I finally got through this entire thread. Thanks CP for the interesting recap!
Definitely some off the board picks by Vegas and I was expecting them to take more goalies. The probably could have put together a better team but I understand what they are doing building for the future with draft picks. I also think 2 forwards and 6 defencemen will be traded tomorrow for even more picks and waiver eligible players.

I really wish they would release which writers voted for what.
They voted Draisaitl top 10 for both RW and LW for the all star teams...

So which Gm's played it the worst? Florida obviously. NYI would have been better to just lose one of their forwards I think. WPG should have just let Enstrom go. I also think Dorion bungled it up really bad. When Dion refused to waive they should have protected 4 d, leaving zach smith and one of brassard or dzingel exposed. Now Dion is the most hated guy in town and they have to trade him at a discount leaving them down two of their top 4 d. They could have lost Smith or Brassard, then flipped Dion for a forward(Eberle) and would be better off.
