Unfortunately that just reinforces that we need to sign an NHL defender or two, but doesn't take a few million off the cap that Stajan or Brouwer would have. That option makes Treliving's job the hardest for the upcoming season, in terms of icing a cap compliant roster, although affects the team least long term.

Possible it's involved in a brower trade where we retain salary? It's the only trade scenario I can picture that wouldn't be able to be done if they just took browner via the expansion draft. But a trade seems likely, because, as I understand, they get extra time with free agents (like Engelland) before July first, so why draft him.
