Both statements are true in your 2nd sentence. Elliott is partially to blame for the poor start but it's not 100% his fault.

All I can say is that the Flames, as a team, sucked bad the first 15 or so games for two straight seasons and ended with an unlucky bounce to play the Ducks in the first round. Elliot was unlucky enough to be in a Flames uniform when this happened. And for two years in a row, the goalies are to blame - which I think is bullsh*t.

Did you watch the 1st round against the Ducks. Explain to me how game 2-3 are not on Elliott especially game 3. Game 4 is do or die and he lets in the softest of goals.

Flames improved the goalies last year. They went from league worst to about middle of the pack. Went from a bottom 5 team to a mid pack team. That correlates directly to goaltending imo. Please explain why you think it is BS

.880 save % in the playoffs...unlucky? lol

Elliott is a nice guy, he just wasn't very good...I would have been mad at my beer league goalie for a few of those

I'd actually blame mostly Grossmann for the first loss of the season. Rifling pucks up the middle of the d-zone to the opponent will make any goalie look like garbage.

Also the fact that he made it to the opening day roster and was given ice time.

I'd take him back if he's our best option, but we may be going with one of our young guys on the cheap.

Winnipeg is crazy if they don't pick this guy up.

Goalies are just weird, pretty good chance he has a bounce back year IMO.

I think 2015–16 could have ended better if Rämo did not end his season really with an injury, but Hiller was pretty awful that entire year from start to finish. He was demonstrably MUCH worse than Elliott and Johnson were last year. But having said that, Elliott's play in Games 2–4 of the first playoff round were bewilderingly bad.

Yep see ya. Sad it did not work out any better.

Smith is better, Elliott can stay on a cheap deal as a backup eh.

Friedman: Calgary sad that Elliott couldn't stop a beach ball when it mattered

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

If Elliott was willing to take a one-year deal I'd be pretty happy going into the season with a Smith-Elliott tandem.

If there is a way to see a goalies SV% on the first 5 shots of the game, and rank them league wide, I would like to see it. I am betting Elliott would be at the bottom.

To me it seemed a lot of his softies came very early in the game, and made the rest of the team grip their sticks way to tight. You could see their trust disintegrate.

He seemed like a likeable enough guy, and I wish him luck, but I think the older goalie with the mental fortitude to be a starter will be better for the team.
