I disagree. The only game that I can recall where I was disappointed in Kulak's play was against the Rangers, but other than that he's been solid. A guy that I've never understood the entire "calming presence" notion about his play is Wotherspoon.

Red Wings pick, if true they passed on Mrazek
Craig Custance @CraigCustance
Hearing Tomas Nosek most likely to be picked by Vegas from Red Wings list.

Kulak had several big gaffes resulting in goals this year. Remember when he and Wideman teamed up for a doozy against Philly?

no..maybe in isolation its not whining.. but considering this entire thread is filled with a bunch of ur whines and complaints its easy to see why some would think that

speaking of glib...
its the expansion draft.. everyone, including the flames.. were prepared to lose a player.. infact everyone associated with the nhl besides maybe yourself were prepared to lose a player.. losing kulak "sucks" if u were ignorant of the entire expansion process i suppose...
and oh.. its june 21st.. i really doubt our D will be this thin come september..
(thats what she said)

Kulak is the only person I'm worried about. Whenever I watched the Heat he was fantastic.
Think he'll be the #5 by the end of the year.

Personally don't think there was a big difference between Bartkowski & Kulak when it was all said and done this year, and he'll (Bart) be rotating in and out of the line up I would guess in that 5/6D spot.

Since it would hurt because the Flames need cheap D, and in fact would be the most painful selection given our vacant bottom half D, what would you give Vegas to lay off Kulak? I think that gives the best insight as to how painful this would be.
EDIT: Looks like I am piling on, not my intention. But seriously, what would you give up?

I won't even care if Kulak is picked. Don't think he has an NHL future.

Kulak is whatever, you can draft 5-6 guys all day. Vegas can have him not that worried.

Lol. Ottawa loses a defenseman who was playing 22 minutes a night in the conference finals with Methot. Predators lost a potential 30 goal scorer in Neal. Anaheim had to give up a promising 22 year old defenseman with easily top 4 potential, maybe even top 2. Penguins lost a goalie that won 9 of the 16 games they needed for the Cup...and had to give up something to do so. Minnesota not only lost Haula but a recent first round pick in Tuch and Columbus lost a 1st round pick.
With the exception of maybe 2 or 3 bottom of the barrel teams and our Northern neighbour, no one takes a less hit than the Flames if they lose Kulak. A fringe NHL player who may only (and actually probably won't) solidify his place in the NHL because of an expansion team.
Make no mistake, regardless of who the Flames lose, this expansion draft was a godsend to them. They lose no one of significant while nearly every other team they are competing with for the playoffs will.

When there is another expansion draft in three or four years I can only imagine that it will be enough to put poor Tinordi on suicide watch.

Flames get their $16 million cut from the expansion fee. I'm sure losing Brent Kulak isn't an insurmountable challenge.

If Vegas selects Kulak the Flames missed a big opportunity to move Brouwers contract.

I'm not worried about losing anyone that was exposed and I don't think anyone else should be either. Those players protected are the ones that I would have been worried about. Any of the prospects that went exposed haven't shown anything to make me worry about losing them and can be replaced through draft or other means. I haven't left much sleep over who is taken from the Flames roster. It could be worse, we could be in a ANA situation and having to pay Vegas to not take our players. I think we'll be fine with whoever is selected by Vegas.

Vegas' selection from NYI:
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
I'm hearing it's goaltender J-F Berube, as part of the larger deal between NYI and VGK:

I get the strategy of McPhee passing on certain impact quality players that some teams could not protect In return receiving 1st 2nd round picks or another player via 3rd party,. But for this coming season and next if McPhee doesn't build somewhat a competitive team by passing on guys like Neil, Methot, Vatanen, Dumba Kruger talk about a horrendous team. There is doing other GM's a solid and then there is the responsibility he has to those that are going to invest in LV. McPhee has a very realistic opportunity to build a solid 1 through 3 D pairings and superb Goalie tandem. Forwards will be so so. Not great 1st line ok 2nd but really strong 3rd and 4th lines.
