As everyone knew they would. And the awards show is already a joke if they needed the Expansion Draft just for people to tune in.

Aaron Portzline @Aportzline
Nothing official, but signs point to @GoldenKnights making William Karlsson their pick off #CBJ roster. Repeat, nothing official, but ...

Something tells me we're all going to be really disappointed when Vegas selects Shinkaruk/Poirier, leaving us stuck with both Stajan and Brouwer.
Hope to be pleasantly surprised.

first big name. NSH couldn't make the trade to protect him.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
I would expect James Neal of NSH to be claimed by VGK in expansion draft, but remains to be seen how long he's there.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Replying to @TSNBobMcKenzie
If there's no flip deal for him now, he could yield some prime draft assets for VGK as a trade deadline rental player.

I'm fine with that, I can do something better with my evening from 6-8 than watch a poorly put together auxilliary NHL event.

They were doing a decent job of keeping things quiet. It is disappointment at this stage to have everything leak

All these side deals to take on salary and extra players, I can't help but think VGK are going to attempt to grab Shinkaruk. Stajan and Brouwer are just too steep salary and production-wise to take more.

That's fair, but it does not change the fact that 35 points in a season would be relatively commensurate with Brouwer's contract.
Quote:
Compare what Brouwer brings to Frolik at a similar salary and its almost laughable the level of production he's bringing to the club.
|
In his first season in Calgary Frolik scored 32-points—albeit in 64 games. The fact that he was much better than that this year helps to illustrate my point about what should be expected from Brouwer for next year, but moreover, I would say that the Flames are getting excellent value from Frolik. I don't expect they will get the same kind of value from Brouwer, but that is the difference between adequate value and excellent value.
Quote:
35 points might be solid production for a lottery team but certainly not on a team that should be moving into the upper echelon of teams in the western conference.
|
The Pittsburgh Penguins won two Stanley Cups with Carl Hagelin earning $4.0 m a year. He scored 22 points last year. EVERY NHL TEAM has players on their rosters who are significantly overpaid for their role on the team. I am quite sure that the Flames will manage with Brouwer.

They need veteran presence. Maybe Neal to Calgary for Brouwer and Stajan?

trades might not be announced today:
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
BTW, as I understand, VGK will only announce their expansion draft "claims" from each team today. Trades/flips etc would come tomorrow.

It really wouldn't be the end of the world if all expansion cost us was one of those guys
losing those guys doesn't improve the team anyway unless Tre actually has a deal lined up to use the cap space wisely...Its like when we dropped Jaybo and one of the "assets" from the trade according to Feaster was the cap space...the cap space that went right into the owners pockets because it was never spent.

Yeah but Hagelin at least has some useful attributes, like the fact that he can skate a million miles per hour. Also, he scored those 22 points in only 61 games.

Marchessault is not the #FlaPanthers player going to #GoldenKnights. If he is, it's news to him (which would be surprising).

No word on who #Isles are losing in expansion draft tonight, but my understanding is it's not someone who saw regular NHL time last season.

It's not that I have any strong feelings one way or the other about Shinkaruk and Poirier (IMO neither are NHL players), but I sure would love to be rid of that $10 million fourth line eyesore of Bouma/Stajan/Brouwer.

Not really.
Anaheim was forced to use their last slot to protect Kevin Bikes and his NMC, while the Flames were fortunate that one of their top forwards was exempt from the expansion draft. Is it really surprising that a team at the peak of their competitive window is deeper than one that is just entering theirs? The Ducks are deeper now, but it is closer than you intimate, and getting closer with every passing year.

Good. I'd rather not watch it if I don't need to.

If true we're going to see a lot of head scratching picks until we understand the back end trade that goes with it.
ALSO: Can they drag this out longer???

This is the first expansion draft under a NHL salary cap/floor. Very different strategy on McPhee's part.

NHL would do much better as a league if they got together with @foxandfriends before the leakers give away the roster. Sad! #fakenews #GoldenKnights #leakers
