So no, duffman, your preconceived notions are off base and wrong. Nice avatar.

a gay man you say, a woman, my my, what an inviting, all inclusive sport you are glamorizing. Makes me wish we had a constitution that allowed every psycho out there to start packing a semi auto with full clips, every time he went to the gas station for beer. You really have changed my mind, the way you make guns sound like so much fun and responsibility.

It's almost like you can't tell the difference between someone with a hobby, and a guy who killed nine innocent people in a church.
You also seem to think that allowing access to that highly regulated hobby means we might as well just scrap all gun laws and let everyone walk around with a handgun.
Anyway, going to the gun range is fun. Not really my thing to do regularly or even annually, but it is a good time.

Glad to hear you had a good experience. I'm sure you found that it was a calm environment with people who are more than willing to help and genuinely want to see you enjoy your time.
I've taken some new shooters out and they just didn't "care for it". And that's fine. But at the very least hopefully they learned how to safely handle a firearm. In the future if they come across one it's nice to have the knowledge to safely handle, and ensure the firearm is safe. There is nothing to be scared of, education is key.
On the flip side I've had people who, after their first session shooting, sign up for the PAL course and get liscened.
As an aside, when it comes to new shooters it's been my experience that the women outshoot the men. Everytime.

It's too bad you're so vehemently opposed to any sort of education. At the very least you would perhaps learn proper terminology so you don't let the cat out of the bag and let everyone know how clueless you are when it comes to firearms. Now carry on wringing those hands to the bone.

Once, long ago, someone explained the related concepts of nuance and subtlety to Duffman, and he, upon reflection, resolved that he wanted no truck with either of them.

Hey, I've been to a range and shot a .45 a long time ago. I've shot guns.
The fact is though, that this is the "Ongoing US Mass Shooting Thread".
We're not discussing hobbies, and how cool guns are. Start a different thread for that if you like, where I won't argue with your love for guns.
edit - I'm really sure there already is one, actually, maybe dig it up and you can extol your love of guns in it again.

You must know everything about firearms then. How many "clips" you shoot boss?
I was kinda hoping the conversation would turn towards education, which helps to build a safe culture. IMO it's the culture that's broken in the US due to many things, namely how their country was born and how many people view firearms. This is where the root issues lies in my mind, not number of guns, not number of bullets. Consider that the number of firearms to people is nearly identical in Canada as it is the US.
Pandora a box is open. How do you change attitudes around firearms? Because you ain't gonna make them disappear.

I don't know anything about guns, except this...
America has more guns than any other civilized country, and has more gun related deaths and injuries than any other civilized country.
(per capita)
Your statement of

is BS, imo, and you refuse to accept the obvious reality, while glamorizing guns every chance you get.

is it? Lets take the high number here of 21 million:
http://nationalpost.com/news/canada/...0-498e92d80373
of 36 million people. A rate of 58%. In the US,
http://www.npr.org/2016/01/05/462017...by-the-numbers
they say more than 300 million guns, with a population of 321 million for a rate of 93%. Do you have other numbers to back up your claim?

Yeah, the lunacy has gone on so long that they aren't going away. I don't think anyone has a magic solution to make them disappear. There are plenty of non-magic solutions to make fewer of the appear though. Maybe they should start there.

@2StonedBirds: if you genuinely believe that the solution to America's gun problem lies with education, you'd better become pretty fiscally liberal pretty quickly. Education is expensive, both to provide and acquire. In order for those populations in the States who are both most at-risk of gun deaths and likely to be the perpetrator of gun crimes, you're going to need a massive transfer of wealth 'downhill' into those populations in order for them to be able to afford the requisite gun education.

'No truck with' may seem rather antiquated language now, although it is still used. Even older is a version that hasn't often been heard since Grandma's day - 'brook no truck with'. 'Brook' in this context means 'make use of/enjoy' and adds emphasis to the standard 'have no truck'. The image I have of someone who would 'brook no truck' is Queen Victoria, in her later and more 'unamused' years. A truculent woman at that stage by many accounts, although 'truculent' and 'truck' aren't related.

But let's assume that's correct. Hell let's even go farther and say it less than that, around half the rate of ownership the US has.
The homicide rate per 100,000 people should be about half in Canada as it is in the states. But it isn't? Why is that?

It is much lower than half that.
CAN 1.68
US 4.88

I guess I've lost your point here, other than you think guns are not a problem.
