Personally, I'd re-install Flash and see if that helps.

192.168.1.1 = your router, so it looks to me that that would be the problem. Try getting a new one and that SHOULD fix it.

Ok guys and girls, I need a little help. On the weekend went out and bought a laptop and a wireless router. Got those working with my main pc just fine. But the one problem I have is I cannot access my outlook express on my main computer, it comes up with an error about pop3 and stuff, if I unhook the router my email works fine. Im sure its something easy I have to fix in the setup, but Im not very experienced with this stuff and just click buttons till something usually works
If anybody has and tips that would be appreciated, by the way the wireless router is a d-link di-624, and Im on Shaw cable for internet.
Thank you

Do you get spam from the same people all the time? If so, then blocking will work. Although usually spam comes from different sources each time, so blocking won't help. Even baysian filters (the ones the "learn" what are good email vs spam based on what words are in the ones you accept vs the ones you mark as spam) on my home system are missing a specific stock market spam.
|
Thanks, man. I have a spam filter that is catching it but all it does is redirect it to a spam file (if that's the correct term). I'm getting some from the same spamers but a lot of it is from different sources. I'll try blocking the ones I recognize and will just delete the one-timers. Good luck in the WF. Now that my Eaks are done I don't know who to cheer for.

The other thing may be interferance. You did say that sometimes it works OK, and other times it sux, didn't you?
Are you using 802.11b/g (they are by far the most common)?
You may have someone elso nearby using the same channel, and that can create issues. In your router, try changing the channel being used and see if that helps before you switch routers (although they are cheap).

Check here.
If you aren't comfortable editing the registry (a super high risk endeavour - you can hose your entire system if you aren't careful) then you may want to get some help from someone who is familiar with doing it.

I just received a message that Norton has blocked an intrusion attempt onto one of my computers. It said this: Xmap Xmas scan, risk level medium.
I know this is not a problem but I'm curious about this. What can others tell me about this? Is this a common thing? This stuff intrigues me and I want to understand more about this.
thanks.

The settings in routers are all different. On mine there is a box that, when you click on it shows you the list of different channels and you pick one. Almost everybody uses the default. I got playing around with it because my cordless phone would knock off my connection when it was used. I tried seeing if a different channel would work better.
Here is a link that explains things a bit better than me.
(Edit: for all you geeks: I use a Linksys WRT54G with HyperWRT firmware and was able to bump up the antenna power to get a very nice connection throughout my house. Previously, in my front room I would get occasional drops.)

Now that you're behind a router, you need to enter the full name of the Shaw email server.
Go here:
http://support.shaw.ca/customercare/faq.htm
Look for the " My router/firewall requires that I provide the full mail server names." question.

There are a bunch of different versions of that router. Version 5 and after cannot be hacked (maybe it can, but not easily like the earlier versions - I have 2.2).
I'm not sure what channel I picked. I believe 6 is the default.
Download Netstumbler
Don't worry about the info it gives (I can't understand half of what it tells me), but it will tell you how many networks your computer can see (no matter how faint) and what channel they are on. Pick a channel that isn't very common and give that a try.

Alright I have a problem...I installed the newest version of Firefox..and un-intalled IE 7...but when I sign into MSN Messenger...and it tells me that I have emails in my inbox...I cannot get into my inbox by clicking on it through messenger.
First of all..it opens an IE window..even though I have set Firefox as my default browser...and then after it has opened a IE window...it also opens a Firefox window..which takes me to an account login. Well I figured there was a mixup somewhere..so I tried to sign in. It did allow me to sign in...but took me to the account information page. I can't access my inbox..or anything through MSN Messenger...each time it gives me the same account information page..after initially asking me to login 'again.'
I'm wondering if that is a Firefox problem..or something else I'm doing wrong. Also..is there any possible way to stop Messenger from opening the IE window first..when I click on inbox...and just open a firefox window by itself?
Thanks.

Hey, Azure I don't think that it is recommended to uninstall IE. Still use Firefox but have IE as a backup but I don't know anything about Messenger.

Azure,
I don't think there is anyway to associate firefox with MSN Messenger. Microsoft has made it so it always uses IE even if something else is the default browser.
There may be some software package that will change that but I don't know of any.
I also don't recommend uninstalling IE but leave it on the computer and just use firefox (or whatever browser) as the primary.

When uninstalling IE 7, like Azure did, it will simply reinstall IE 6.

Yeah..I uninstalled IE 7 because I didn't want to deal with the security flaws..if there are indeed any.
I still have IE 6 on my computer...but I get the same problem.

Well, that's what I get for not noticing you said IE 7.
Anyway, MSN still won't use anything other than IE. I'm not sure why it would open a firefox browser though. I've never had it do that and I use MSN to check my hotmail account and firefox as my default browser.
Does it load the page at all in IE or just open a blank page?

Hey I have a problem with Mozilla. When I download say a Word document off of the UofC website or my email, my Firefox crashes. Could this be a bug from Firefox 2.0 or is it something with my firewall settings? There's no problems downloading stuff from IE7.
