There's not a lot of moral difference between the two.

I'm not correlating child porn and upskirts. I'm correlating jail time and upskirts because it s person in society (a man in society, let's face it), who is going around violating women, on purpose, for his own sexual pleasure. Besides the fact that he was then posting the footage on the internet. Purposeful physical violation of another person is, imo, not something we should just shrug off as normal male behaviour. Besides the fact that that type of behaviour is pretty likely to escalate into other, perhaps worse, violations like physical touching and physical assault. Women getting groped on public transit is a real thing. Should we just let that slide too?
The child porn is another issue, though completely unsurprising given that he followed very young teens around at comicon filming them for sexual purpose, without their knowledge or consent. You know, violating them. And then put the footage of him zooming in on 13 and 14 year old girls body parts out there for public consumption.

No one is suggesting this.

Yeah I don't know if I'm a fan of publicly taking credit for something like this.
I thought it was a victim that came forward? What role did CrackMacs play in this?
Anyways there is nothing to be celebrated about this entire incident.
Just seems a bit dickish.

To pile on to that sentiment, the media handling of this is a little bit questionable. I think it was last night they were talking about a similar account in Vancouver, and of course I'm not against them highlighting these accounts. What I do think is a little questionable is that they fill the reports with the pictures and videos that these guys take/took.
So it's bad for these guys to take the videos or photos in the first place, but then the media does numerous reports and shows the videos to a larger audience and we're cool with that for some reason? I don't know...it's not something I would be cool with if I was one of the women in the video against her will.

Yeah I agree. Apparently the original person that reported it gave media permission to use the image - but that still should be noted in the image attribution. Moreover, the outlets should be asking themselves if the image is necessary to illustrate the story. We know what this type of stuff looks like - it doesn't need to be shown. When it comes to sensitive images like this, it should be included if needed to really tell the story. In this case it wasn't.

I like how Crackmacs makes an account on CP and suddenly people are posting links to his Twitter trying to take them down a peg lol. Seems designed just to get their attention, since barely anybody ever posted their tweets prior.
Accused sexual predator gets arrested, better spend time policing anyone who takes credit for tracking him down!

Accused sexual predator gets arrested, better spend time to tell everyone I did this! Legit!

As a result of thinking Crackmacs is sadly desperate for attention, I no longer think that this original offender did anything wrong.

My point is: was Crackmacs' twitter "tone" the subject of conversation/critique before they had an account here? Not in a single moment that I can remember. I also don't think there's anything especially weird about taking credit for helping catch a criminal, if that's what you did.
So it seems a little "notice me senpai!" now, that's all. Just looking to get their attention I guess. Carry on.

CP is a little scuzzier now that Crackmacs exploits it to promote their social media profile.

Your point is weird. It wasn't a subject of conversation before because the situation hadn't come up. For what it is worth he's getting a bit of criticism for this in more than one place. I don't think it has anything to do with the fact he posts here - and I'm not sure why you would assume it does.
What he posted is a far cry from "Good article on the small part I played in catching this guy" or "Our followers were a part of this!". No it was proclaiming loudly "I DID THIS".
Moreover, there's another part of this that doesn't sit well with me - in this case it worked out well - but there are really valid and good reasons why the media and police don't plaster images for people all over the place saying "this guy did this" unless they know for sure. There is a standard that must be reached to protect all of us. There have been situations of innocent people being victimized by internet justice. So when he says "we can do what we want" in the article he's basically admitting not not having those same standards. That's dangerous.
Glad it worked out here.
Anyways I just think people are having a hard time swallowing the complete lack of humility from him.
Nothing to do with CP though.

Crackmacs? That account has been talked about for years on CP both good and bad. I mean you're a relatively new user but it's been a household name here and has been brought up in many, many threads.
